Has anyone been to a 'celeb' hairdresser

Hi has anyone ever used a 'celeb' hairdresser before? My hair always looks ok, sometimes nice, but I want it to look more than ok if that makes sense. I'm not happy with the colour particularly either as I always have to tell the hairdresser what I want and am not really sure what suits be best. I'd love to go to a really good hairdresser, as a one off, and have a god restyle.
Have you done this before?

My sister won a competition to have her hair cut by John Frieda. He did an amazing job. The hairdresser who cut her hair later said they could tell someone really good had cut it.

I went to the big name salon but didn't have the big name guy himself, maybe his number 2 or 3.
It wasn't a particularly special cut, and the experience was marred for me because he was soo important he was dealing with two or possibly even three clients at the same time and kept dashing between us. I felt really out of place.
If I were you I would shop around high street hairdressers till you find one who actually takes the time to listen to you.

Never been to a celeb hairdresser. But I have had a lovely cut by asking someone with amazing hair at a party where she got hers done.

Bombardier25966 · 19/03/2018 17:34

Go on personal recommendation, not celebs.

I went to a super posh salon and felt far too normal for them. One client was being fussed over by all of them, the rest of us just sat looking uncomfortable. And the costs kept mounting up, everything was an extra. £20 to run straighteners (after a half rate blow dry) through my short hair. Never again!

I have had my colour done by Louise Galvin. She was lovely. I was going blonde and needed practically a whole day of having dark colour build-up stripped away and the highlights applied. It took ages but she did a fab job. It was extremely expensive though. I did it because I wanted the procedure done really well and she had been recommended. I now have the highlights topped up by my local salon for a fraction of the price.

I had mine done on 'The Salon' on TV, I think it was a chap called 'Ricardo' ... it wasn't my favourite ever cut and colour - they tried to make my friend sit in a hot tub while I had it done ... it was all very surreal 🤣

I used to get my hair done by Michael Kelly at Liberty who was sort of an Instagram star and fantastic hairdresser

It was honestly amazing. He’s left now and i have my hair done by someone else and she’s even better

christinarossetti · 19/03/2018 20:31

I was plucked from the crowd queuing for the Vidal Sassoon student cuts years ago and had a cut and colour from one of their top stylists.

It was an amazing cut. Never has my hair fallen well for weeks on end after a cut. But my hair's easy to get to look 'nice enough' which is good enough for me, given the cost of amazing.

BusterTheBulldog · 19/03/2018 20:35

Omg fabulouslyglamourousferret - I LOVED ‘The Salon’ were you on telly? How was the experience generally??

OCSockOrphanage · 19/03/2018 20:36

If you trust your own judgement, look at the stylists working with fashion college graduates for their final degree shows. That's where the next generation of talent is taking shape. In a few years, they will be the celebrity hairdressers (as long as they were taught cutting and technical skills).

Karcheer · 19/03/2018 20:38

I used to get my hair cut and coloured at Four near Oxford Circus they do a lot of celebrities, they are brilliant would definitely recommend.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 19/03/2018 21:02

Buster it was a bit boring to be honest, I wasn't particularly interesting and no-one fancied me!! so it was very dull, they just talked about themselves constantly, self absorbed wannabes really. Sorry to burst the bubble 🤣

tryingtobethebestican · 20/03/2018 21:37

Thanks for your replies, oo I'd love to get my hair done by John Frieda or someone like that!! All your comments are really making me want to look into it 🙂

I had my hair cut by a guy called Michael Price, who's a curly hair expert, for my 40th. Cost DH a fortune. Lovely salon, but I felt very uncool in it! The most impressive thing was the way he didn't actually cut that much off, but the way he cut it and brought out all my natural curls was absolutely astonishing. Sadly I've never been able to afford to go back!

tryingtobethebestican · 21/03/2018 22:15

I think I just need some sort of style revamp so want someone to say "You'll look great with your hair like this..." that type of thing! Blush

I was given a session at Nicky Clarke for my 18th birthday. It was really worth it, the curls were cut beautifully. But couldn't afford to go back and at the time the prevailing fashion (well, still is, probably) was for poker-straight glossy hair and I didn't have the confidence to wear mine down. So in that respect it was a bit of a waste.

Astrabees · 22/03/2018 10:04

I don't photograph well a the best of times. A few days before DS1 was born I had a cut and colour by one of the top stylists at Vidal Sassoon headquarters in London as a treat to myself. It looked nice, but not astounding. However after the birth in every single photograph for the next 6 weeks I looked really good, it framed and flattered my face and was full and bouncy beyond anything I'd experienced before. I didn't go back as I live 120 miles away but it was well worth it.

Knowivedonewrong · 22/03/2018 11:25

Phil Smith has a salon in Salisbury. Smith England it's called. Not had my hair done by him but did our apprenticeship together. He's very good.

Madonnasbiggestfan · 22/03/2018 11:32

I had mine coloured (not cut - as my mum and cousins are trained hairdresser - but not colourists so I have it cut for free) by a celebrity hairdresser a couple of weeks ago. Edward James, Edward himself. He is lovely and he's armed himself with medical info about hair. He did my highlights and an olaplex treatment. My hair looks the best it ever has.
It was a treat and worth it; but I only jave highlights twice a year- and with my free haircuts I can justify the cost...sort of...

tryingtobethebestican · 23/03/2018 22:52

I'm thinking of asking for money towards treating myself for my birthday, I'm in Surrey so London is easily accessible. I wouldn't want to feel uncomfortable though, I'd love to feel really pampered and someone make me look nice...

I had my hair done a couple of times by Andrew Barton of ten years younger fame. He was really lovely and I enjoyed it, but was about £250.

tryingtobethebestican · 25/03/2018 23:26

😱 that's expensive!
