What about the Babyliss Volume Waves Tong

To be fair, none of them get great reviews but not too expensive.

This one is good for very loose waves. Think you need shoulder length or longer hair though as it’s wide. It works well for me!

I have thick wavy shoulder length hair. What I often do is use my straightening tongs along the shaft of the hair and while the hair is still hot , put in a large barrelled roller.I leave them in until they have cooled down and in the meantime do my make up, get dressed , tidy up , whatever. These bouncy curls hold better than any appliance I have ever used.

If I want loose curls I use a curling wand on a night time and by the morning it’s a lot calmer. I’ve got a bog standard babyliss one. It’s fine.

Also works best if hair isn’t freshly washed as curls drop out quicker

I have just learned a new trick to give me loose beachy waves... whichever wand you use, curl for several seconds, release and then pull the hair straight for a couple of seconds as it cools. Works a treat on my hair which previously looked too curly and ‘perfect’ when I curled it.

My hair is also fine and medium length by the way!

To get waves you want to curl bigger sections of hair with a big barrelled curling wand. It might be tight at first but will drop soon enough or you can help by running your fingers through it and salt spray will help too.

I have the mark hill wand from boots which is a good piece of equipment as you can try different wand ends in it. I would start with either the waver wand or the largest diameter wand but they're usually on 3 for 2 so you might be able to get both.
