I have the worst hair - what to do with limp mouse crap hair

splendide · 19/03/2018 14:30

I'm so down about my hair, it's embarrassingly crap!

It's shoulder length, limp and lifeless. It has a weird kink thing going on so the back always looks odd. And it's always got a halo of frizz.

I HATE IT!

Any tips? Amazing hairdresser recommendations in the SW London area? Maybe I should shave it all off.

PS have moonface so I look stupid with it tied up too

Short pixie, dye if you fancy it (personally I like mouse), wax for body, then go nuts on lovely make up and focus on that and clothes (if that's your bag), or plain old ignore it happy in the knowledge that job is done!

Fellow limp fine sufferer here!

Chocolatewafer · 19/03/2018 14:50

Lots of lovely fresh blonde highlights? Or if you don’t fancy the cost/maintenance a rich semi permanent colour? (Once you get the idea of levels/shades that suit you can buy it cheap online and do yourself - I love L’Oréal Diarichesse colours!)

Then perhaps some waves with ceramic hair irons and away you go?

I’m sure your hair is lovely but understand that sometimes you feel you need a change. My hair is the opposite, thick and voluminous but never ever in a good way - just frizzy and hard to manage without lots of work

halfwitpicker · 19/03/2018 14:51

Redken cleansing cream. Wash it twice, too.

ZzzMarchhare · 19/03/2018 14:52

My hair is like this and I alternate between short styles and short bob- I’ve given up with anything longer as it just looks shite

TheWormThatTurned · 19/03/2018 14:58

Invest in bumble & bumble thickening full form mousse.
It's not cheap, but I use it daily and get approx 3 months out of a can.
It has literally transformed my hair from flat, whispy, to bouncy full bodied hair.
Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Chop it off. Best thing I ever did to my shoulder length hair. I have a choppy sort of Meg Ryan from the 80s but longer at the back, with highlights. Takes less than five minutes blasted upside down to dry, bit of sea salt spray (lush is good) and done.
Find a recommendation on local
Social media, ideally look for someone who has a reputation for make overs or for lots of different types of hair. Take in photos but also listen to what they say will work On your type/face.

splendide · 19/03/2018 15:46

Can people with big moon faces do choppy short cuts? I sort of love the idea but I'm a bit wimpy.

Have just ordered some bumble and bumble to try, thanks Worm!

I'm literally googling "short hair fat face"

Bringonspring · 19/03/2018 15:55

Following, I just ordered the mousse as well!!

Corcra · 19/03/2018 18:22

Do you mind me asking.. What do you do with the mousse? Sorry silly question but do you put it in and blow dry in a certain way? Thanks

RoryHatesCoffee · 19/03/2018 18:23

Balayage for a bit of colour and texture?

Trovi · 19/03/2018 18:30

My hair is like this and my solution is to alternate between a blunt chin-length bob and a pixie. Sorry girl, but this type of hair will never look good when it is long in my experience!

ItsalmostSummer · 19/03/2018 18:33

Sw London - can you never more specific? I can recommend someone.

splendide · 19/03/2018 18:44

I’m Kingston area but willing to travel!

do you have a thyroid issue?
moon face and hair issue rings a bell for thyroid.

splendide · 19/03/2018 18:48

Hmm maybe. I think I’m just a bit fat and run down tbh.

splendide · 22/03/2018 21:12

Right!

Haircut booked - going to get it all cut off tomorrow. I’m planning to ask for a long pixie.

DaisyRenton18 · 23/03/2018 00:04

How did the haircut go, splendide?

I hate my hair too, so I feel your pain but unfortunately have no miracle products to recommend. I do find using a Babyliss Big Hair helpful with a nice end result, but it's time-consuming and a faff, plus I know they're like marmite on here.

splendide · 24/03/2018 08:36

It’s ok! A tad disappointing in that they wouldn’t cut it as short as I wanted. I presume in case I was upset. It’s a chin length bob basically and I’ve had some highlights. Going back in 8 weeks to maybe go shorter

Sounds like a good start!

FriendshipBraclet · 24/03/2018 09:11

I've just had my similar hair cut into a short Bob. I curl it to give it a bit of texture, similar to picture below, is that something you could do with your new cut?

MinnieMousse · 24/03/2018 09:16

I have the same hair. Can't afford highlights and I have the wrong features for a short cut. I've pretty much given up! I wondered if heated rollers might be good for body? I've also found a heat protection spray good for the frizz and flyaways.

clarrylove · 24/03/2018 09:23

I love that hairstyle, Friendship Bracelet. How do you curl it like that though?

DianaT1969 · 24/03/2018 09:40

Regarding the mouse colour, I just tried Lush henna rouge for the first time and am really pleased. I was tired of getting my grey roots done every 3-4 weeks. The expense, time and condition of my hair weren't good. Lush contains cocoa butter, so the condition is good, I have vibrant dark auburn hair which looks thick. I can top up the roots every couple of weeks at home. Grey roots are a gold colour at the moment. Will see how this goes....

ItsAllDoomAndGloom · 24/03/2018 11:48

FriendshipBracelet - that hair is amazing!
