The natural look. Why can't it be norm instead of pretend natural

Watching CBBO C4+1 - Perri's hair (diversity dance group) so natural. Why has fashion never really promoted the natural look? Especially now when we could save the planet sooo much waste, soo much plastic waste etc, save electric etc. And look fab into the bargain!

He has got amazing hair but I do wish he would tie it back while he’s cooking.

Agree with you though. A truly natural look is so much better.

Agree about tying it back when baking. The interview outside with the light shining through it was amazingly beautiful. The kind of photo magazines pay "top whack" for!

Read a very informative thread about black hair recently.

I'll try and find it.

"Why has fashion never really promoted the natural look?"

There wouldn't be anything to sell, I guess.

It's not just black hair though, I've been really surprised in recent years at how many people straighten their hair daily, and how quick hairdressers are to use straighteners or pull on people's hair to smooth it. My hair looks better if left to dry on its own but hairdressers always use the excuse that they can't check the cut if I walk out with it wet.

I think nowadays virtually nothing is allowed to be as nature intended as far as women's grooming goes! More so than ever before IMO.

What CatherineMaitland said.

To create demand so manufacturers can sell products, and because of the expectation that everyone (but particularly women) must always be their most perfect selves, aesthetically speaking.

I think a discussion about black people's hair is a separate one to the general question of why hair and beauty doesn't seem to sway towards the natural look. Black women's (and men's) hair and the history and politics that go with it, is a very important issue. Just saying because of the person you used as an example. I am white so I don't feel I have the right to wade in on the subject but wanted to point that out. It's to do with beauty standards being measured against European, white, ideals of beauty.

I am far far too tired to be articulate about it. There was a very good documentary on Netflix called Good Hair. Chris Rock presents it. Unfortunately it seems to be off there now but if you ever come across it, it's well worth a watch.

But yes, agree that generally speaking it's so more products can be sold. If you're constantly being told you aren't good enough the way you are, it's easier to sell you a little dream in a bottle.

I remember a couple of years ago when they tried to make 'draping' a thing. Contouring your face with 4 different shades of colour wasn't enough anymore, now you should be using 2-3 blushers instead. Trouble was, those who hadn't succumbed to the contouring trend were doing the blusher thing anyway and had been for years so it didn't hit off.
