OK have taken the plunge and ordered link{http://www.kew-online.com/kewwebshop/shopdetail.aspx?season=0701&sty_num=6019&sty_qual=111\this dress}
Now is it going to make me look like a dwarf in a nightie? Am 43, 5'5", size 12 with big norks.
I so want a maxi dress this summer but don't want to be a laughing stock. Oh and would you wear one of these just out and about on school run and stuff or would it look over the top? Having a style crisis here as you can maybe tell?

I tried on a maxi dress in topshop at lunchtime - it looked like a nighty (very thin cotton), I think Kew will be better.

I also looked in Primark there was an OK one for £15 (in case of not much wear), but it would need to be tried on.

I agree Rosa but maxi dresses are just not me. I do wear my nice things and don't really agree with 'saving for best' , kids included, but I have a different set of nice things for going out. Otherwise I'd feel no different when I actually was going out IYKWIM?

I do see what you mean Mel - but you see I hardly ever go out!

I hankered after a maxi dress for weeks and then tried some on. Big disappointment. Most maxis in the shops are empire line and/or halterneck. I think for that shape to work, you have to be skinny. Tall and willowy and small breasted and flat stomached. Or pregnant. There are some lovely dresses about but not I like enough to get pregant for!

Actually NKF maxi dress + 5'2" heavily pregnant woman = a teepee that boy scouts could camp under So you're not missing out!

It's arrived - it's lovely. Now can the weather please change back again so I can wear it!
That's me done on clothes buying for the summer then. Two new dresses, one top and a pair of sandals - that's my lot!
