Does anyone have one of these? Are they any good? What will they do for my flat hair?

I cannot for the life of me get the hang of mine!

Whenever I try I just end up having to cut my losses and scrape back my hair into a ponytail as it makes it so hilariously fluffy.

Not sure I've got the patience to rough blow dry, use the thing then also use straighteners and rollers!!

hownowpowpow · 29/03/2018 08:55

Thanks everyone. I missed the 50% off so am still sporting the dragged through a hedge look.

Holycrapwhatnow · 29/03/2018 09:00

Maybe good if you haven't got the hang of a round brush? I found it much quicker with just a dryer and a round brush, and without the risk of losing concentration, twirling it the wrong way.

haverhill · 29/03/2018 09:04

I dislike gadgets generally but my Bighair gets used a lot. It does what it’s meant to do relatively easily.

SenorBork · 29/03/2018 09:10

Big Hair is the only gadget I regularly use. I have very fine, straight hair, currently in a longish Bob. I don't bother with all the faffing beforehand, just put in some volumising spray or cream, let dry until about 70% dry (takes about 5 mins in my case!), and then use the BBH in sections until it's dry. Don't need to clip them back, just lift up chunks working around your head. It is like having a salon blow dry for me. Amazing.

I do find that it works less well the longer my hair gets - probably as its so fine and lank it struggles to hold the volume in, even with product. Am keen to try the Sheer Volume some time, perhaps I can give it a top up in between washes with it.

ParkayFloor · 29/03/2018 09:21

Didn't work on me but I have stubborn straight as an ironing board hair.

Littlelondoner · 29/03/2018 11:49

I hate mine. Find a brush and hairdryer so much quicker and easier.

The fact you have to dry your hair first anyways takes away any convinience for me.

Plua its rips so much hair out.

It is a big no from me.

positivepineapple · 29/03/2018 11:55

I love mine!!!! I've never been able to get the hang of holding a hairdryer and a brush together 🙈

My hair is only just above my shoulders so I don't have any issues with tangling. It's great for volume and getting rid of weird partings and cowslicks. I use mine when my hair is 75% dry and it takes about 10 minutes - plus I don't need to use straighteners after.

DairyisClosed · 29/03/2018 12:02

@onlyonaTuesday I've been thinking of getting buying a second hand one to try it out. I'd love to take yours off your hands for you. PM me x

LockedOutOfMN · 29/03/2018 12:04

I've got long straight hair and find it really easy to use for quick drying. If I'm going somewhere special, I let my hair air dry to 80% dry then use the BBH to dry it with a bit more volume than it would have naturally. It also comes out shinier than air-dried hair and it's very quick. It doesn't rip out any of my hair either (a previous poster complained of this).

MiniDoofa · 29/03/2018 12:11

Love mine! Very very fine hair which is normally frizzy, this works great and like PPS have said, when I use it I get asked if I've been to the hairdresser.

Habanero · 29/03/2018 12:12

I love mine. I have very fine, flat hair and it makes it smooth, shiny and styled.

onlyonaTuesday · 29/03/2018 13:15

@DairyisClosed I'm at work till Sunday and don't know how to pm on my phone.
Will message you from my laptop over the weekend.
It's yours if you want it.

DairyisClosed · 29/03/2018 13:18

@onlyonaTuesday thank you! I'll send you a quick message so that you know where to find me

CotswoldStrife · 29/03/2018 13:20

I like it (big hair) and it works better for me if I use it from the roots and not just curling the ends with it.

GinandGingerBeer · 29/03/2018 13:34

Sheer volume has gone down a bit in price now so I'm glad I waited.
I'm growing my hair out from a pixie and it's in a very short bob now but I can still use either the BBH or the SV on it, bar the back but at my neck.
Live it but Jesus it gets so hot! 🔥
I agree curl secret is pants. Made me look like Nancy Grin

UndomesticHousewife · 29/03/2018 14:12

Love the big hair I hate hairdryers and brushes so never bothered to blow dry my hair but this gets my hair lovely and columnists and smooth.
I leave my hair to dry naturally after washing it anyway but it does go frizzy so I use this when it’s almost dry and it looks lovely. I wouldn’t be without mine ( I sound like an advert!)
Haven’t used the sheer volume though I looked at it and not sure what the difference between that and the big hair is.

anothernewone · 29/03/2018 20:45

If anyone that isn't keen on their wants to sell please pm me :)

BoundByBriars · 29/03/2018 22:24

I forgot to mention that I have quite thick, curly hair that gets very frizzy! Perhaps that's why it doesn't work for me.

I'll give it a couple more goes over the Easter break when I don't have to be anywhere first thing in the morning and then it's being sold!

sycamore54321 · 30/03/2018 04:24

I don't need more volume as I have masses of thick hair but I loved my Big Hair for getting my hair to sit nicely, to straighten out the frizz and kinks and the weird wavy bits that alternate between my straight bits. For a few years I used it almost every time I washed my hair, and it largely replaced my GHD to get my hair under control, so had much less heat damage.

I also like my Big Hair for touch-ups on days when I don't wash my hair, or if I'm heading out in the evening or if I want to wear my hair down after being in a ponytail all day. This freshens my hair and makes it look just that bit sleeker and more groomed - for second day use, I just use it on dry hair and in a hurry use it on the layers near the front. Takes about four minutes and makes a big difference.

I've recently gotten a very fancy dryer and took quite a bit of time to learn how to do the round-brush blow dry better so I'm using my BBH less. If you can already give yourself a good blowdry, it mightn't be worth it. But if like me, you can't style your hair that well yourself, then the BBH could be worth its weight in gold.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 30/03/2018 08:27

I would love it! It looks ace but I do wonder if it would work on my thick, frizzy hair.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 30/03/2018 11:42

Ok, so I just offered £14 for a refurbished one on eBay because i don't want to be out £40 if it doesn't work. My hair is super frizzy, thick, long and coarse.

Cowsopinion · 31/03/2018 09:29

Is anyone selling theirs? I'd love to give them a go, will pay obvs!

I have a pro curl and I love it.. the only way I can actually curl my hair!
