Can anyone exlplain Estee Lauder Double Wear Light shades to me?

I've been trying out ELDW in 1W1 (Warm Bone) and 1W2 (Sand) and I like how long it lasts and how well it covers all the horrors that need covering but I do find it a bit heavy and mask like. I want to try the ELDW Light version but I'm finding the shades baffling. I asked at an EL counter and Intensity 2 was suggested but it looks really dark to me. They all look a bit orangey/pink. I usually go for yellower/more neutral tones.

Can anyone explain the weird shades to me?!

Thanks

Hi OP, I am very fair and in the Winter I wear ELDW in shell. I did also try ELDW in porcelain but that was actually too pale for me (something I have never had before).

In the Summer I wear EL double wear light in 0.5. I have found that not every EL counter seems to have the light in 0.5 but Debenhams usually do and are great at giving out a sample. I find both these colours perfect. I would say ELDW light in 0.5 is definitely more yellow/neutral tone and DWshell has a very slight pink tone but only slight. Porcelain was very neutral.

Meant to say, I also get very confused with their number system. I think EL also do a DW nude foundation and a sponge foundation. I have not tried either of these. Someone else might have some experience of these foundations.

I have worn warm bone, though a very long time ago, and find 0.5 is the closest DW light shade I can use. It’s still a tad dark for me though

Thanks. Annoyingly they don't stock 0.5 at the department store nearest to me. Maybe I'll try Intensity 1. Asking for a sample is a good idea. I don't want to waste £30 on something that I can't wear!

I'm white and fair (mousy hair and blue eyes), tho not ghostly pale, and I've worn Instensity 2.0 for years.

I wear a spf 30 day moisturiser (Body Shop Vitamin E Emulsion) and then then ELDW Light on top. Only need a little bit as it goes a long way imo.

I wear sand in ELDW and No. 1 in the light. They seem pretty much the same on me. I’ve recently given up on the light version and use ELDW mixed with a bit of moisturiser.

pongopig · 16/03/2018 21:02

Meant to say, don’t use the light anymore as I need a bit more coverage nowadays.

I'm ecru in normal double wear and shade 1 in the light version.

Debenhams have the 0.5 DW light available on their website. If you can get a sample of the 1.0 at your local department store and it is still slightly too dark you would probably be safe ordering 0.5 from Debenhams.

I wear 3.0, typically olive skinned. Ask for samples, they usually last a week or so. That way you can properly test in different lights.

The W will stand for warm, C for cool, and N for neutral. I wear normal Double Wear foundation and have olive undertones to my skin. Neutral is the closest that I can get, though still not really a match.
