Why oh why am I never shade matched correctly

I'm pale. It's been a battle finding products that match my face and neck.

After a few bad experiences a few years back I shade matched myself as best as I could. But recently decided to bite the bullet and try counters again.

Mac lady tried to sell me a concealer at least 2 shades too dark. I've just come home from being shade matched for another higher end brand foundation and lo and behold too dark. In the shop , not great lighting, it didn't look too bad, but as soon as I got home my face is orange and my neck ghostly white. I'm fed up. Luckily I can return the foundation.

I suffer with anxiety and HATE returning things like this. Will I come across a dick if I basically say you've done a shit job give me your lightest shade please Angry

Really pale as I have vitelligo on my face. No 7 calico is perfect, it is consistent over their different types of foundation too.

I have noticed that French brands such as Lancome will try to sell me cool pink shades when in actual fact I am fair but warm. A warm Ivory.

I'm also very pale. Recently I've sacked off buying high end foundations and have had a punt on The Ordinary serum foundation. Dirt cheap, lots of shades inc v pale ones. Pretty good coverage and staying power. I'd recommend it. It's only about £5 a bottle so easy to buy a few and see which suits you best.

If you are v pale have you tried Korean BB creams, they are v pale?

I’m too lazy to read the thread but I used to have this problem. It was because the sales assistants always wanted to make me less pale. I now tell them I’m looking for one as pale as me so not to give me anything warmer - I like my face and neck to be the same colour. They turn their noses up but I’ve been happier with colours lately.

BradleyPooper · 18/03/2018 02:42

I got through 4 Fenty foundations (all bought on the advice of assistants) before I found the right one for me. Ask them to do stripes of colours on your jawbone and then go outside with a mirror or phone and see which one is closest to your natural skintone in daylight. And if someone sells you a dud, take it back for a refund.

Also get them to do your face if you can (many won’t now) and then go away and see how you like it. Space nk are great for giving you wee pots away.

I know it sounds a massive faff but for the posters whose necks are paler than their faces, have you tried using two different shades? One for face and one for neck?
Foundation isn't supposed to change the colour or tone of your skin, so by putting on a shade that is too pale for your face ( but matches your neck) aren't you making more work for yourself?
Two shades would mean that although not a uniform shade, both your face and necks would look like the best version of themselves.

Lobsterface · 18/03/2018 14:19

My face and neck are the same colour- the issue is the shade I’m given is a different colour from my neck. I don’t put it much further down than under my chin.

I'm very pale and cool toned.
I shade match myself.
If something doesn't go light enough I'll buy lightening drops. MUA do them, cheap as chips and you can customise your shade.
