Or it might just see me off Wink

I am 51 and seriously unfit .
I plan to do nought more arduous than treadmill walking for the first few sessions.

But I want to tone up (a bit)
Lose the middle fat
Get fitter (not fit , I'll settle for fitter )

So tomorrow starts the new me with any luck.

I will weigh, measure and possibly photograph my carcass in the mirrr for incentive.

Good luck. Your best bet is to ask for a PT to give you an introductory session, which should be free.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2018 22:46

Thanks Smile
Yes there is an induction class and a PT assessment.
I can clock up 12-15,000 steps when I'm not at work so walking ( ie walking but putting a bit of effort into it) will be my initial try out.

Well done for finding the motivation to get things started! Good luck, I hope it goes well for you Smile

Induction class was the term I was looking for.
Do weights and body pump and maybe pilates. They'll whittle you into tone in no time. You'll need two or three sessions a week but after about 3 sessions you'll be admiring the improvement.

I might get to see my husband too , he practically lives at the Gym now (that was not my motivation for joining though Grin )

I have some vaguely suitable clothes, need a proper sports bra but otherwise , yay!

Lift weights. Best thing for keeping your bones young apparently.

I'm late 40s and have just joined a gym after a break of several years Blush.
I've been doing a mix of body pump (for bone strength and toning flobby arms) and Pilates/yoga for flexibility (which had suddenly started deteriorating).
I haven't dropped any weight but have been concentrating on just getting into the habit of going regularly. This week I have added RPM (static bike class) to start working on my cardio fitness.
I don't just go and use weights/treadmills as I get bored after 10 minutes - I need an instructor shouting at me and no way of escape for 50 mins. Another good feature of my gym is that if you cancel a class with less than 3 hours notice you are banned from future classes so there is no wimping out because you feel a bit weary after work!

HuskyMcClusky · 16/03/2018 03:08

Good for you!

I was talking to one of the fittest trainers at out gym last night. She became a lifesaver and full-time personal trainer at the age of 52, and she’s a machine.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 16/03/2018 12:35

Yy, Pilates! I'm 50 and not especially fit but started Pilates in the autumn to help my back and could feel the difference almost immediately. It mostly feels like a lot of lying down and gentle movement when you're doing it but I'm much more stable now.

I go for an evening walk on the river with friends and in the winter it's dark and can be tricky underfoot. If I catch my toe or my ankle wobbles I'm not in danger of going arse over tit, my core kicks in and I can carry on.

I don't know if anyone else can see it but I know my belly is less saggy and I stand straighter.

Of course it has little to do with cardio fitness so that will have to happen elsewhere but it's great prep alonside any kind of fitness regimen.

tameka · 16/03/2018 13:09

I want to get back to the gym but can't at present as I am dizzy due to anaemia.

Well done for joining!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2018 01:18

I did 70 minutes continual walking on an incline at 4km speed.
That was enough for Day 1 , I reckon.
My muscles will tell me tomorrow if they will ever speak to me again Grin

Have an Induction/ PT booked for next week.
( I can see the attraction now of gyms having got to this age never using one myself)

That’s a bloody good effort - we’ll done, you! Smile

Hope the induction goes well. Give us a report!

LiquoriceWheel · 18/03/2018 09:15

Well done and good luck!

I second weight training. You'll see the fastest results, it really changes your body shape. Well done OP.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/03/2018 21:17

Hello, thanks for all the encouragement Smile

DH keeps 'suggesting' I use the excercise bike and the cross trainer.
I am using the treadmill still, I've been 3 times now and amazed myself by actually looking forward to my gym trip (never thought I'd say that!)

I really can't see myself running , I am very unco-ordinated.
Not sure about weights, I had a nasty injury to both arms (basically fell flat on my face a few years ago and put both arms out) it was 18 months till they were 'right' again, though no fractures.

Previous RTA caused back injury (I'm a catch eh? ) so I don't want to be jarring.

There's a sauna there, might treat myself ...........
