Nice dress/outfit I can breastfeed in?

I'm going to a wedding in June and I need something to wear. All of my wedding-y dresses are pre-pregnancy size 10, and wouldn't be suitable for breastfeeding even if I could squeeze myself into them!

I'm now a size 14 with big boobs and a tummy that is 3 months post partum and very wobbly. Hopefully it will have shrunk further in the next 3 months, but I need to have something thats not too tight around it just in case!

Where can I get an outfit? Most nursing dresses that I can find are either really casual, really frumpy or look more like workwear. I'm on mat leave so really can't afford to spend hundreds!

ASOS has good nursing dresses that aren't super frumpy

Personally I would hold off on buying anything, as I found my body changed a great deal from 3-6 mo after my babies.

I’d look for normal -not nursing dresses - that you can BF in. Wrap dresses are your friend! Last year I got done nice ones from Oasis and Boden often have that style

Foggymist · 15/03/2018 22:42

Yeah just buy a normal wrap style dress or any with a suitable V neck and pull it aside or put a vest top under it, I cut holes in vest tops for this purpose Smile Or alternatively do a skirt and top combo. There are lots of suitable options out there, I've absolutely loads of gorgeous bf friendly outfits all from my usual stores (Oasis, Asos, etc) and all really cheap because I love a bargain. Prettykittyfashion.co.uk has a lovely style of swing dress that I particularly love, and only about €25, light and floaty and perfect for summer weddings.

Thanks all, I was uninspired by the ASOS nursing dresses but they've got some great wrap dresses.

cantmakeme That's a good point. I'd assumed I'd lost all the weight I was going to without actually dieting, but it's nice to hear that might not be the case. Did you find it was your shape that changed or your dress size?

Foggy I'd not heard of that website, they've got some lovely stuff on there, thanks Smile

It's an awful name for a website and I was wary ordering the first time but the dresses I have from there are fab!

Join the Facebook group 'can I breastfeed in it?' It is an absolute godsend for bf fashion hunters

I bought a side opening dress (zip at the side) for my brothers wedding and took it to a seamstress who put a zip in the other side seam. I just unzipped and had access, jacket ovet the top, fed discreetly all through the ceremony. Was much easier and much nicer than the breastfeeding dresses. I found they were all maternity too, so longer at the front to accommodate a bump I no longer had. Have fun xx

Just wear st normal you feel nice in and go somewhere private to feed

Rogue1234 · 16/03/2018 14:58

Goose I'd not heard of that page, thanks. It'll be handy for other clothes as well Smile

Good idea having a dress altered as well Devon, I hadn't considered that.

It's a fairly local wedding so we're not staying over. I don't know if there would be any side rooms and I don't want to end up feeding in a loo if I have to strip down to feed, so I'd definitely rather have something I know I'm able to feed in.

I like buttons, so shirtdress style? People tree have a lovely broiderie anglais one but it's white, so not ideal for a wedding guest!

Once I got to 5 months postpartum that's when breastfeeding really came into its own as a weight loss mechanism... I was permanently hungry and very slim!
