What do you wear to see a show in West End?

We have Hamilton tickets for a couple weeks time. I’ve suddenly wondered what do people wear to see a west end show?
Anything?
Smart?
Fancy?

Help! 😬

You can wear anything, I like to dress a bit fancier than my usual so when I saw Hamilton I wore heeled ankle boots, skinny jeans and a nice top, comfy but fairly smart.
My advice would be layers you can take off because it got really hot in there and worse after the interval when everyone had been moving around.

Anything you want within reason! Some people go dressed up to the nines; others look like they have just wandered in off the street! (Like jeans, etc) I guess some people see it as a "night out", whereas some go after work or being tourists all day.

Smart casual. Nice hair and makeup.

Anything at all!

I've been to two shows in recent months. For one of the, I wore smart jeans, smart top, heels. For the other one I wore full on evening dress, but that was because I was having dinner somewhere fancy beforehand and felt like getting dressed up. I didn't look out of place in either outfit.

Anything you want. Truly, you will see people in everything from trainers to cocktail dresses. Most people will be in smart casual, although if it’s a weeknight a lot of people will be coming from work so dressed for that.

I usually wear something comfortable and casual that I can sit around in for a couple of hours: jeans and a loose top However, if I'm going from work I will probably still have my work clothes on.

I would also avoid wearing anything that makes a noise, material that rustlers is a lot jewellery that rattles, that sort of thing, or take off anything like that if I'm wearing my work clothes.

For context, I live and work in central London and I go to the theatre pretty regularly.

Hope you have an amazing night Grin

Literally ANYTHING

Anything really, I tend to be smart casual, layers is a good idea, it can get very warm. No hair piled on top of your head and no perfume out of consideration for the people around you.

Thank you!
I had a sudden panic that I’d have nothing to wear or be over/under dressed! 😄

Anything you like. I avoid jeans but that's because I always get hot in a theatre and as a rule don't like anything tight when I'm sitting down for a long period. Having said that, I had jeans on last Friday when I went so that blows that out of the window!

Usually though, I'm in a dress and boots/shoes as that's my regular office wear and I often go straight from work.

Only caveat to the above is if I'm going to the Royal Opera House, in which case I'd wear something a bit smarter. I don't know why, maybe it's just because it is the Royal Opera House!

Smart casual & layers. Depending what the weather is like (it was freezing during half term) you will be in the queue outside for about 10 mins or so.

Lots of 2nd timers will be wearing the “merch”

I’ve been going to the theatre for over 30 years & it’s one of the best pieces of theatre I have ever seen.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 15/03/2018 09:22

I took one of my kids to see Charlie and the Chocolate factory and it didn't even occur to me to think about what to wear. I assume we were both wearing jeans and trainers as we'd been sight seeing all day. I certainly didn't dress up or get him to.

Another Londoner here and another advising’absolutely anything’. Only thing I’d say is not anything ‘over the top’ - unless you’re happy to look like a tourist, in which case, go for it.
