Giving up on the beauty buff onto brush

I've never really got the hang on the sponge; I dampen it and then it seems to soak all my foundation up. Today I've bought a Real Techniques brush.
On Youtube they just seem to 'paint' it in from the nose out.
Any tips I might try? Last time I tried I remember brush strokes.
I've got a liquid foundation.

Brushes are good. I pump foundation out to my fingers then dot some on my cheeks, chin, forehead then blend with the brush. You can paint it on but it depends on the foundation you have if it will leave brush lines. I've found some oil based foundations do leave lines, so a kabuki brush has worked well for that (flat head dense brush) but water based ones are good with a flat brush like a paintbrush.

They will need gentle regular washing as the brush hair will clump and separate after a few applications, which will leave streaks/lines on your face.

Thanks Violet, that makes sense about the clumping causing streaks. How often would you recommend I wash it?

Probably once a week or fortnight depending on how often you use it.

For oil based it can be hard to get the foundation out, so for very tough to budge foundation in the brush I use a tiny dab of washing up liquid (just to dissipate the oil) and/or shampoo. Rinse well, smooth into shape, leave to dry overnight naturally.

Oh and for sponges, I never dampened mine. As long as it's fairly soft and squashy it worked fine. Hard sponges are impossible to use though. I would dab foundation on, then dab the sponge around the foundation areas, then more or less wipe/smudge/dab all over.

I did like a sponge with my previous foundation but my current one works better with a brush.
