I'm having my 6 monthly hair crisis. I've got really thick hair, when it's in good condition and well looked after it looks pretty fab.

I struggle to find the time to maintain it with young dc so a while back I had it cut from halfway down my back into a mid length bob. It's at that growing out stage now and looks pretty shit.

So do I ride it out and get it to a decent length again or chop it off and embrace the messy mum bob!?

Please tell me about your low maintenance but lovely hair styles, bonus points if you have stupid thick hair Grin

I've got thick hair and have it cut in a very short pixie. If I have it cut in a longer style the hairdresser has to spend ages thinning it out. I don't dye it and I think the thickness makes it look youthful, most men starting to get thin

I have a long bob in a middle parting with a long fringe and I’m growing out some highlights so it looks like Ombre. Buts it’s not.

Bluesheep8 · 11/03/2018 15:50

Cropped short pixie. Hair colour is very very dark/black, never been coloured.

Grrrr. I posted that by mistake. I think thick hair looks great in a pixie. I can just wash and give it a quick comb in the morning, although I usually add a smidge of product and give it a quick once over with the hairdryer.

I have very curly mixed race Afro hair but by the sounds of it, you don't so not sure my hairstyle would be an option for you haha! Agree that a pixie cut can look gorgeous though and am very envious that I can't pull of this style!

Inverted bob with a short blunt fringe. It's very short into my nape at the back and about 2" below my chin at the front. Choppy layers around the edge, I can wear it naturally curly or straighten it for a more chic (in my head anyway!) look. My hair's thick and naturally wavy/ curly.

Thick hair - really short pixie - really good hairdresser! Dries in under four mins and styled with a bit of wax/gum.

Love the idea of a pixie cut but there's no way I could carry it off.

Do you find a fringe high maintenance @dolly? I'm thinking a fringe could be an easy way to keep a bob modern.

Another pixie cut here but with a long fringe and a side partying. Its also highlighted very blonde. I love it!

SingingGoldfinch · 11/03/2018 16:40

Partying? Should read parting! 😬🤪

Stupidly thick hair checking in. Grin Lots of hair, slight wave.

I discovered a few years ago that actually, contrary to what I believed for years, lots of layers aren't my friend. My hair needs weight so blunt ends with either 1 or two long layers or one length work better for me. With weight and no feathering or thinning out, I get subtle waves and it's very shiny and silky with body.

I made the mistake of trying layers again and have spent the last year growing them out. Just had a, bra strap length, blunt cut with a long fringe done. With some point cutting into the bottom so it's not a 4 inch thick wedge. When it's grown a bit I'm going to get it cut less blunt to achieve the look I had pre disastrous haircut.

I also like having a fringe as it looks like you've made an effort even when you've just blasted it with a hairdryer.

A pixie cut was my worst cut. It grew like a triangle and took lots of time to tame.

Highly recommend a blunt fringe for thick hair. (Maybe with a tiny bit of point cutting to break up the blunt line but hardly anything.) This is the best method for drying a fringe. You can wash it under the tap in between full hair washes and then follow the drying technique shown here. Takes a total of 2 minutes max.

You don't need any products btw. I prefer no products on my fringe. And any paddle brush is fine. www.salihughesbeauty.com/videos/video-fringes/
