Double wedding style challenge!

DD(14) and I are going to a wedding. Outdoors, in Southern Europe, in August.

Both tall, quite slim (her more than me!), broad shoulders, good legs. But I am deathly pale and generally rubbish at summer (though quite stylish in the cold), while DD is gorgeous but 14 and MORTIFIED about EVERYTHING. Insists she won't wear a dress or expose any part of her body at all (her ideal would be a hazmat suit with a burka over it. But it's going to be HOT).

I am less self conscious but hate my upper arms (keratosis pilaris) and am a 32FF couldn't get away without a bra. A squint at the venue meanwhile reveals COBBLES everywhere so Heel Hazard as well. It's basically my worst fashion nightmare. Help me, S&Bers!

No help on the clothes but switching from shower gel to old fashioned proper soap, and some occasional dry body brushing has made my KP almost disappear on my arms.

I ordered various different things for a wedding last year and one of them was a really pretty wide leg jumpsuit from asos. I didn't go for it in the end but it was a contender! Might that be something your dd would wear? I don't think the shops have the summer weight ones in yet (the one I tried was viscose so would have been light enough for hot weather).

As for you, no specific suggestions but I used to live in a hot country and went to quite a few weddings. I always focused on a cover up for my upper arms first and worked backwards e.g. light or very dark coloured (no sweat marks!) slightly structured and very lightweight material jacket/shrug then my options for dresses were far more and could always wear a bra ! I usually but not always went for a long dress so i had even less to think about. As for footwear, wedges or jewelled flats would both probably work.

Ameliorate cream is meant to be very good for KP.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 11/03/2018 17:39

I might be able to persuade her into a jumpsuit though everything I've seen so far is polyester so too sweaty for the location. For me I was thinking a midi skirt and a simple top, partly because I've got another wedding to go to in the autumn and the skirt might work for that too. Will try the Ameliorate, thanks.

I went to a spainish wedding a few years ago and the wedding didn't start until 7pm to avoid the main heat of the day.
It was still hot, but not as crazy hot.

Would your daughter wear a maxi dress/skirt? Or wide leg trousers?

RomaineCalm · 11/03/2018 19:26

This was linked to on another thread, would you daughter wear something like this with some wedges/high espadrille type sandals?

Difficult to know just how heavy the fabric is though, it does look quite 'floaty'.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 11/03/2018 20:12

I saw that on the other thread, it is lovely but I don't think she'd go for it. The annoying thing is she's so gorgeous but won't have it - swishy hair, clear eyes, beautiful glowy skin. When I was 14 I was a total mingerEnvy

So I've ordered this skirt for me. Child still refusing to engage.
