Eczema starting on eyelids

I think so, anyway. They pick and itch and the skin looks a little inflamed there now. I don't know why - I don't wash with soap (flannel and water) and I've not changed my moisturiser for years (nivea or origins). I want to try and nip this in the bus asap but don't know how.

Why is this suddenly happening and what can I do?

Could be blepharitis, is it itchy? If so hot compress or flannels should help.

Hi OP! I get this occasionally, sometimes weather related (very cold outside and hot inside etc) or stress related. The GP advised hydrocortisone cream, the weakest strength 1% mixed with diprobase cream applied to the area. Only for short term use as hydrocortisone is a steroid, but it clears it very quickly. Literally a tiny dab of those mixed together, you can buy them without prescription!

I get this , doc prescribed steroid cream to be used sparingly but I only use when it is bad. Other times I keep my eyes as free from makeup as possible, wear it during the day but take off if I'm just at home and apply Vaseline liberally.

I get this. Hormone related. Angry I use La Roche Posay micellar gel with a microfibre cleansing cloth and Aveeno moisturiser. It's pretty much the only combination which doesn't flare it up.

LIZS Just googled blepharitis - I don't think so but the word 'inflamed' I used is perhaps not accurate - mine are more a discolouration. Thanks loads for replying though.

Confused - thanks. I have both in the house (DD has eczema) so I'll give that a whirl! Thank you!

youcantelleverybody I hope mine isn't! I'm suffering enough with my bloody hormones as it it! I'll keep a note of what you use and give that a whirl if the hydrocortisone doesn't sort it. Thank you.

Yep i had this doc prescribe a very mild hydrocortisone 0.1% it cleared
up after weeks of suffering. I really wouldn't put anything on your eye lids without a gp's advice as skin is very thin also a pharmacist won't sell you the cream if its for your face. Mine was due to a reaction to pollen we think i have hayfever but it never affected my eye lids before it was a bad year for pollen. I would defo avoid eye make up i still rarely wear eye shadow now as my eye lids are now over sensitive to it.

CisMyArse · 10/03/2018 19:07

Francis - duly noted. What exactly do you do with the compresses?

Just be so careful with the hydrocortisone cream. I was being driven mad my mine and put a very small amount on - cleared up immediately m, but then the skin on my eyelids went so thin that it was kind of weepy. It took months of being pretty uncomfortable before it all healed and I was frightened for a while that it never would. Now I use liberal amounts of vaseline, very frequently at the slightest hint and that seems to keep on top of things.

My daughter has if and also on her neck and inside the elbows. The only thing that shifts it is steroid cream but it comes straight back. The steroid cream is so bad for her and I really don't want to continue with it. We've started seeing a faith healer! We've done one session, two more to go. I did think it looked a little better after a few days of seeing him but now it's as bad as ever. Could be money down the drain but it's worth a try at this stage. My friend reckoned he worked wonders on her neice otherwise I wouldn't have gone near him.

I've bad itchy dry skin on my own eyelids before and it's turned out to be blepharitis.
