Do you not get shampoo 'for greasy hair' any more?

11 yo dd's hair can get a bit greasy. I was picking up a shampoo for her and tried looking for one 'for greasy hair' but there wasn't one in the whole mega-mart aisle of shampoo.

Was it never a thing?

Is it called something different now? There were a boggling number of different hair types I could have chosen, but none that obviously translated as greasy.

I'm rubbish with this sort of thing. What should I advise her? She has fairly fine, shoulder length hair. The hairs are fine but there are a lot of them iyswim - so thick hair made of thin hairs. She swims 7 times a week and I think sometimes rinses after a swim rather than shampooing every time, so it's not being shampooed every day. Should it be? I would have thought all that chlorine would have made dry hair rather than greasy.

Dd uses Alberto Balsam apple.

I use the Superdrug own brand oily hair shampoo.

Try the new Pantene Micellar shampoo. It's clear and it says for greasy hair on it. It leaves your hair light, soft and bouncy. People keep asking me if I've had my hair done. I's only £3.99 for a huge bottle.

As a general rule of thumb, for oily hair use a clear shampoo. Anything that is opaque or creamy looking will be too moisturising.

Shampoos for greasy hair are often labelled these days as Deep Cleanse or Detoxing shampoo.
I love the Herbal Essences Bio Renew one called CLEAN; white strawberry and mint. (about £4 in supermarkets).
Avoid using conditioner on the roots too. Apply to the mid and ends only and preferably rinse with head upside down.

If your dd doesn't want to wash her hair everyday then she could start using dry shampoo on in between days.

Just checked the bottle. It says: for hair prone to greasiness.

Superdrug stock a couple which say for greasy hair. The Albertto one works for Dds hair.

T-tree shampoo is worth a try, but my favourite the Body Shops has been discontinued.

Clarifying shampoos like Vosene are good on grease.

The citrus head and shoulders is for greasy hair (although I don't think it specifically says it on it anymore -they had taken it off about 3 years ago) - but the formula was the same as my previous one that said for greasy hair. Worked wonders back when I had greasy hair all through my teens and early 20s (although since spending 18months on steroids I now have the opposite problem (dry & brittle) despite not being on steroids for a year now).

L'Oréal clay one is meant to be good

EnidButton · 10/03/2018 21:18

Look for ones that say any of these

Clarifying
Detoxing
Micellar
Deep cleanse

I'm using Lush Big shampoo atm for oily roots. It's very good but expensive for the amount you get and might be awkward for her to use. It's like chunky bits of salt that dissolve. For anyone else looking though I thought it might be helpful.

If she uses conditioner remember she should completely avoid putting it on her roots. Ends first then run it through the mid lengths. None on roots or scalp.

EnidButton · 10/03/2018 21:19

Sorry, realised pp has already said about conditioner.

CryingMessFFS · 10/03/2018 21:20

I love the L’Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Clay shampoo, I’ll find a pic, it’s fab on my greasy roots.

CryingMessFFS · 10/03/2018 21:23

This is it, it is fab! Can be pricey if it’s not on offer but if you shop around normally it’s half price somewhere, the conditioner is fab too. It is fine to use every day but I found after a few weeks I didn’t need to wash my hair every day any more.
