suncream for all day every day.

For medical reasons I've been told I should be wearing suncream all the time that my skin is exposed to sun. I'm only used to using suncream if I'm going to be out in strong sunlight for a while.

It sounds like a massive ball ache. I don't even know where to start. If I could apply it like a moisturizer at the beginning of the day and forget about it, it would be fine. I'd appreciate advise please.

My skin is not oily Grin I also got told off for not using enough moisturiser, between my psoriasis, generally dry skin and blistery bits I'm soooo attractive.

I'll try it without the moisturiser and see what happens first, my prescribed moisturiser is really heavy, I fear I may end up in a gooey mess.

The layering of sunscreen must depend on which type you use. A chemical sunscreen needs to go on the face first , it needs to have direct contact with the skin in order to work. A mineral sunscreen can go on after other products . Please be aware of which type you choose, it's important. I have both sorts of ultrasun, one chemical, the other mineral.

You’re welcome badkitten. If you’re dry then moisturiser first with the waiting period I mentioned should be fine. Vit D supplementation would be prudent for you, given you really should avoid the sun altogether (boring I know- sorry).

It's going to be quite a sea change this. Hey ho. With my psoriasis topical treatments I was advised moisturiser first, leave for 15 mins, wipe off excess then apply topical treatments on top. She said it would allow better absorption.

OP, even though you’ve had loads of recommendations I thought I’d chip in as I’m on immunosuppressants (have been since quite young) and have been through loads of different sunscreens. I always use spf50 as I did have some skin issues with lower spfs even in UK. I look for a 5 star UVA rating too. My faves are:

  • MURAD city skin - silky texture and not greasy looking. Pricey though so I stock up when there is 15% off
  • Estée Lauder daywear spf 50, quite moisturising too
  • La Roche Posay - actually not my fave but it’s good
  • Boots no7 spf 50 - a little shiny

In winter I will put moisturised underneath and a little foundation over, in summer just the sunscreen and a little tinted moisturiser or similar. I also have a really handy mineral sunscreen powder in a twist up applicator but I can’t remember the name temporarily. It’s excellent for topping up.

I am also on immunosuppressants and I use Clinique City Block 50. Have done for about 10 years.

This is really helpful :) thank you all. I'll start with a small bottle and see which agrees with me most.
