dp bought me some yesterday so i will let you know! made me pmsl that 100s of people queued from the early hours outside Boots on Oxford St and dp casually strolled in there yesterday afternoon, straight to the counter and bought some - in and out in 5 mins.

PinkMartini · 06/05/2007 12:11

There was a big scandal on R4 on Friday about the fact that the independent study which found it the best a- aging cream was paid for by Boots.

NadineBaggott should know, she knows all about pentapeptides

fortyplus · 06/05/2007 12:11

I heard something on the radio a while ago where a doctor said that if these cream (not particularly the Boots one) did what they said they'd do then they'd have to be licensed as drugs.

I hope it does work though! I'll watch this thread and go & get some if it works for you guys. Fingers crossed

DelGirl · 06/05/2007 12:13

I might give this a go when they next have some in. Only because i'm almost out of mine and I only use No7 anyway. I guess it will do something. Apparently they opened our local boots at midnight the other night and sold 100 then sold the rest in the morning. There was a picture in the paper of people outside the shop at 12, sad muppets

DelGirl · 06/05/2007 12:14

well it can't be any worse and it's certainly not the most expensive either.

Tamum · 06/05/2007 12:15

I've been using it for about 4-5 weeks, and actually I do think there is a slight difference. The dermatologist on Horizon said it would take 3 months to see the effects of a build up of fibrillin, so I will wait and see...

twinsetandpearls · 06/05/2007 12:18

ooh link please.

Tamum · 06/05/2007 12:21

It's this stuff but I can't believe how much people are paying! I just went to Boots and bought some, but I think it was just before the craze really took off.

twinsetandpearls · 06/05/2007 12:22

how much is it in boots

Tamum · 06/05/2007 12:23

Can't remember- about 15 quid maybe?

filthymindedvixen · 06/05/2007 12:39

I'm really pissed off as I started using it about 3 months ago and liked it. Now I can't get any for love nor money since that bloody programme.

BUT:

There was peice on it yesterday in Guardian's Bad Science. Apparently the active vitamin A ingredient does work, but if they put in enough to 'work' properly it will cause major side effects in the way of soreness and redness. The tests involved 9 volunteers. and were against a normal moisturiser (placebo) and the 'pure' tretinoin form.
So, oooh, Boots7 performed better than a bog-standard moisturiser (and remember, vaseline will 'moisturise your skin, albeit very greasily..)

So study was not against similar anti-ageing creams...
Although it's a lot cheaper than similar products which may or may not work.

I'm not convinced enough to go queue, that's for sure...

JodieG1 · 06/05/2007 12:42

Just looked on boots.com and they have some in stock

twinsetandpearls · 06/05/2007 12:42

they will have it in our boots being up north we don;t chatch on to trends so nothing ever sells out apart from umbrellas.

dollyk · 06/05/2007 12:44

I paid about £17 for it but would never over pay for it on ebay I would rather wait

OP posts:
dollyk · 06/05/2007 12:44

and in my boots they were only selling 1 per person

OP posts:
dollyk · 06/05/2007 14:15

anyone else using this?

OP posts:
SoapOnARope · 06/05/2007 14:17

read this

Scanner · 06/05/2007 14:24

I heard a bit of the radio 4 article about it on Friday. The scientist involved said that it was not unusual for a company like boots to finance a study like this. He said that he and his colleagues didn't know that they were financing it and that the tests were blind, so they didn't know who the manufacturers were. He also said that he and his colleagues didn't expect any of them to work and were surprised that one did. However they were not tested on people, but in the lab, so they don't have any evidence that it will work on humans. I still thought I'd give it a go.

dollyk · 06/05/2007 16:34

Its just goes to show what a lot of hype can do for sales, I have been pulled in by it all

OP posts:
dueat44 · 06/05/2007 17:16

I read this as 'Boots sperm'.

twojags · 07/05/2007 18:13

Have collected about 3 or 4 little samples of this in the Boots 'spend £15 and get a makeup bag and bits and bobs free' deals over the past few months.
Had no idea what I was supposed to actually do with it until I saw all the fuss in the paper.
Might give it a try and see now I know

dollyk · 08/05/2007 14:39

so far so good anyone else using this?

OP posts:
cheeryface · 09/05/2007 13:42

i've been using the other similar one called rewind and refine. apparently it's just as good if not better as it's aimed at more mature skin. i read somewhere that this was also tested and found to work but was after the programme had been on.

it has defo made my skin feel softer, not sure if i look any better. will continue to use anyway and report back.

minkybiscuit · 09/05/2007 13:48

have had this stuff in sample form for months - so now i'm going to start using it - or e-bay it and buy myself some botox instead

BTW - vaseline doesnt moisturise your skin - its a barrier not a moisturiser.

mishw · 09/05/2007 13:52

I've been using it for a few days now and like it. I suppose its a case of watch this space!
