Has anybody done their own balayage or sombre at home? if so what lot did you use and how difficult was it?
I live quite far from the only place around here that does it and it's very very expensive so I was toying with the idea of doing it myself, I have bleached hair before so I know I'll need times purple shampoo etc... Is it worth me having a go myself?

I attempted this a few years ago. I had coloured brown hair and wanted blondish ombre ends.

I got the London Bleach kit. My hair was shoulder length and followed the instructions - from what i can remember, it came with some 'blending' lotion, so you don't end up with a harsh line.

Anyway, i did it. I can't really remember how long i left it on for or the recommended time, probably left it on for the maximum amount. It turned out, not too bad, but not brilliant. I didn't actually do a lot of my hair it because i was scared i'd make a huge mistake. It came out a caramelly colour so not too scary.

Eventually i coloured back over it anyway. A bout a month ago i had a balayage done at the hairdressers - that turned out a bit iffy - more like yellowy gold!

I've made some bad mistakes messing about with bleach at home, but ime the hairdressers isn't always spot on either. The London bleach kit ( available in boots) however was quite good. And if your hair is a natural colour and quite lightish to begin with, i'd imagine you wouldn't have much to worry about. Could you get someone to help you?

I do this and use the loreal ombre kits and it almost always turns out pretty nicely - even a hairdresser said I'd done well with the colour! The only time it went wrong was when I didn't leave it on long enough and it went orange. For the price of the kit, you could always do a trial on a really small section of hair and then even if it's good and you have to buy another kit, it's still far cheaper than going to a hairdressers.

I bought the loreal ombre kit and my hair went orangeConfused.
It's naturally black so I should've known that would happen. I bought another bleach kit and it's went yellow and then I used toner and ash blonde dye and it's turned out quite nice, very very slightly brassy still but I'll use the toner once a week to keep it in check
