Face cleaning at night - no make up

nickdrakeslovechild · 08/03/2018 21:38

If you've not worn make up in the day, do you clean your face at night? If you do, what do you use? I normally wear make up and use Lush Ultrabland but have a problem at the moment which means Ive not been wearing make up so not taking it off. I guess I need to take the days grime off but my ultrabland seems a bit ott for this. What should I be doing?

I cleanse even if Ive not worn make up. Micellar water is a good option.

megletthesecond · 08/03/2018 22:07

Lush coalface soap.

CoperCabana · 08/03/2018 22:08

I wear make up most days and very rarely clean my face at night at all. I had very good skin up until about age 45. Not so much now. Starting to get blotchy and saggy. But still no too bad given I never cleanse or wear night cream.

I double cleanse every night religiously regardless of what I've done or where I've been. I use Liz Earle's Hot Cloth and Aldi's charcoal micellar water or Elemis cleansing balm depending on my mood.

Even without makeup your skin will be dirty by the end of the day; I make the DCs wash their faces before bed each night and despite them never looking grubby there's always a bit of grot that comes off when they wash.

xyzandabc · 08/03/2018 22:12

I rarely wear make up. I just use an exfoliating mitt on my face whenever I have a shower. So sometimes everyday, sometimes every other day. I'd say about 5 X a week, usually in the morning though, nothing in the evening

ariettyspaghetti · 09/03/2018 19:21

definitely and not with micellar water Hmm a proper double cleanse. are you not wearing an spf as you should be?

CremeEggThief · 09/03/2018 19:41

Nope. I only wash my face in the mornings, with soap and water.

omBreROSE · 09/03/2018 19:42

Really?
So you always wake up with bitty / scratchy mascara... and stuff?

Emmasmum2013 · 09/03/2018 19:44

Arietty, what is wrong with micellar water?

Catsandkids78 · 09/03/2018 19:46

LRP TOLERIANE wash -

Surely you’re washing your SPF off that you’ve been wearing daily right ??? ;)

lecossaise · 09/03/2018 19:51

I use Botanics (from Boots) cleanser and toner. Actually the same as when I am wearing make-up minus the eye-make up remover. Contrary to popular opinion, I hate micellar water - it makes me spottier than I've been in a decade!

MysweetAudrina · 09/03/2018 19:53

Lush facial wash, toner and serum at night, moisturiser in the morning. I don't wear make up either.

StylishDuck · 09/03/2018 20:49

I cleanse and moisturise properly if I've been wearing make-up (Clinique take the day off cleanser and No7 night cream) but if I've not been wearing make up I just use a Simple face cloth/make up remover thing before the night cream. Probably not the best thing to do but with a toddler and a newborn it's amazing I actually manage to do that Blush I also use a foaming cleanser in the shower in the morning and exfoliate once a week and I always use No7 day cream because my face feels tight without it.

CoperCabana · 09/03/2018 21:05

Yeah I am proper grotty!

DramaAlpaca · 09/03/2018 21:13

I don't wear make up at all apart from moisturiser with an SPF when I can be bothered. I just rinse my face with water at night & use soap & water in the shower in the morning. It works for me, I'm in my 50s & have good skin with only a few very fine lines.

AreWeDoingThisNow · 09/03/2018 21:36

If I'm not bath/showering I usually just do a hefty spritz of lush tea tree stuff and wipe off with loo roll.

If I am I use ocean scrub and then coal face, and then moisturise when I've dried.

I usually bath/shower in the evenings and spritz in the mornings, so it's only pillow fluff and face oil I'm wiping away (I'm not a sweaty or dribbly sleeper).

specialsubject · 09/03/2018 21:47

Wash morning and night. No sunscreen ( as in the proper stuff, not city block rubbish) November to about now.

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/03/2018 08:41

ooh thanks for replying, I normally never wash my face in the morning and only wash it at night if I have been wearing make up.

I have just started a skin care regime from the ordinary which uses a lot of products am and pm so thought I should start washing first to prep my skin. I might head back to lush and pick up a light weight cleanser then.

No I dont use spf, as I might spend a max of 20 mins outside in any one day.

Micellar water and glycolic pads. Fresh as a daisy!

ariettyspaghetti · 10/03/2018 08:52

@nickdrakeslovechild you should be incorporating an spf regardless. Particulately if you are using 'lots' from TO which will almost certainly include actives.

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/03/2018 09:07

Birdbath99 I find micellar water really drying.

ariettyspaghetti really? even in winter and if I spend such little time outside? For the last few months it's only 5 mins max. I honestly would never of thought of it. When would I apply that, would it before all the lotions or after?

silkpyjamasallday · 10/03/2018 09:12

I use either liz Earle hot cloth cleanser or eve lom cleansing balm every night, and I never wear makeup. I have fairly sensitive skin and also find micellar water drying. If you are using any acid things from the ordinary you should use spf the day after, I thought I'd be fine having used a different brand of AHA and BHA face mask and went out briefly the next morning in spring so it wasn't overly bright and came back with very angry red skin. I might be wrong but I think it's the same with retinoids (I can't use them as I'm bf)

Huuwayeye · 10/03/2018 09:14

I put distilled witch hazel on cotton pads and wipe my face with those before bed and when I wake.

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/03/2018 10:07

ok had a bit of a google and now purchased Altruist spf 50. Thanks for all the advice.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/03/2018 10:51

No need to cleanse if there's no makeup to take off (also quite often don't bother when I've been wearing makeup!). I've always seen SPF as similar to moisturiser, it absorbs so doesn't need to be taken off.
