Can I ask for your experience of fillers?

I'm the other side of 50 and have booked an appointment. At the moment I just have a bit of botox in my 11's.
What I hate is the lines around the corners of my mouth, it's become downturned and the lines go down to my chin.
Not mad on the crows feet either but I really don't want a hamster face.

Did it make a big difference, can anyone tell and did you get bruising and swelling?

Had fillers in the corners of my mouth in 2011 in Zurich. I was 53. Instant result, no bruising or swelling.
Booked to have again next Tuesday but different country (not UK). Fingers crossed.

Eugeniesbridesmaid · 08/03/2018 16:30

Thanks Gin did it get rid of the grumpy look?

l've been thinking exactly the same thing when l can afford it. l'm very happy with my skin because l've looked after it since l was 13 (l'm 60 this year) but the one thing l hate is the downturned mouth and the associated lines. l'm more than happy with my 'laughter lines' and l've never had botox or anything similar, but l think it'd be a huge improvement if l could rid of the grumpy bits.
Please let us know if you decide to go for it, and how you get on! l bruise like a peach but l could cope with that if it made me look better!

I had fillers on my cheeks and around my mouth just before Christmas. It has improved my general expression and smoothed out a lot of the lines around my mouth. I am happy with the results. However, I did bruise quite a bit and it was unexpectedly painful, too.
If you have it done, I would recommend that you book a week off work to give yourself time to heal.

I’ve had the corners of my mouth done with fillers. About 3 years ago - it has lasted ages. Excellent result. I love it. No bruising etc and the sad look immediately gone. I also think it made be look rested to some degree. I’m going for a too up next week. I’ve also had filler in my cheeks, which is great but it doesn’t seem to last very long. Approx 6 months. It definitely makes me look healthier.
Botox works a treat for crows feet.

The week before filler the derm told me to avoid aspirin and anti inflammatory meds, and fish oils, as both make you more prone to bruising. I had no bruising, no after effects at all.

Thank you for the comments.
I'm going to go for it, but have no annual leave left so I'll be on the high strength concealer . The website suggests one syringe is £400 gulp does that sound about right?

It works but the result doesn’t last long for the money and I had very bad bruising that make up didn’t cover.

Ijustneedmycoffee · 08/03/2018 18:09

I pay about that. I think it’s considered a bit expensive but for me it’s worth it - I really rate this place (derm office).
I think you’ll love it. And I had no bruising at all so hopefully you won’t.

blueshoes · 08/03/2018 18:37

If it costs £400 a pop and does not last long, what about a lower face lift instead, to lift the down turned corners?

I don't actually know much about face lifts but it could be worth a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon if you are not squeamish about a surgical solution?

XiCi · 08/03/2018 18:51

I paid £180 for 1 syringe. Instant results. There was some bruising but easily covered - I used dermablend. It lasted a long time, over 2 years, so was very happy with the results. Am due to get a top up now and will probably get my upper lip done too as I have some fine lines there

RaspberryF00l · 08/03/2018 18:59

I tried it a couple of years ago when about 49 in the corners of my mouth. I honestly couldn't see any difference so I've not been back.

namechangeometre · 08/03/2018 19:16

I own an Aesthetics company OP (I won't say where so I can't be mistaken for advertising!), and we only charge £200 per 1ml of filler for the marionettes. We're about average in price too so not the cheapest, and not the most expensive, but not far off either way. £400 for 1ml is extortionate! Did the practitioner say what brand of filler they use?

Eugeniesbridesmaid · 08/03/2018 19:36

Thank you so much for all the info.
I don't know what product it is namechange. I live in rural area so there isn't much competition so I should think that's why it's pricey. It's a Dr who specialises in these type of things. The Botox for 11's is £180.
I'll be gutted if I don't look happier afterwards but dread anyone noticing.

I'm thinking of having Ellanse fillers in a couple of weeks. I had Sculptra 3 years ago and it is just wearing off now. This has really great reviews

namechangeometre · 08/03/2018 19:50

Ours is doctor led too (my DH), but if you're rural the price is more understandable! In my experience the marionette's do make a huge difference on a personal level, and generally you'll have people saying you look great, but not being able to put their finger on why exactly that is - which is what our clients usually want! Does that make sense?

Fosterdog123 · 08/03/2018 20:04

£400 is about right for 1ml of filler with an experienced, well regarded doctor. I pay £150 for Botox in one area. The downturn in your mouth is due to everything sliding south, so a bit of (subtle) filler in your cheeks puts the scaffolding back in the face and lifts everything back up. If done conservatively, you won't look like a hamster!

MrsMaisel · 08/03/2018 20:45

I recently paid £400 for 1ml - very happy with the results. Some bruising and took about a week for it to settle, but love it. I hope it lasts!
