Longchamp Le Pliage - a question about their handles

I'd really like one of these with handles long enough to be worn on my shoulder. However, in pictures the handles look rounded so I'm wondering how well, or otherwise, they stay ON your shoulder. If you have one, do you find the handles stay in place, or do you have to keep hoiking them?! I'd be grateful for any insider knowledge!

I have one and I've never had any issues with the handles staying in place (no more so than any other bags anyway!)

The handles are leather so quite grippy and malleable iyswim- they cling to your shoulder fairly well. Having said that, I've had mine for years, so possibly they were less so when I first got the bag, I can't remember!

Another point about general wear and tear is that the corners on the bottom of the bag do wear through and fray eventually. Not a problem for me as I've had the bag 5 years and for £70ish can't complain about that but it does look a bit messy. I should probably get a new one!

I've got one (the all black model) and I've never had a problem with it slipping off either. I absolutely love mine (it was a gift and my only 'fancy' bag) - mine has survived being puked on by my cat and being used to cart power tools around in.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 08/03/2018 10:32

they stay on fine. I bloody love mine. I know they're sniffed at for being dull/frumpy, but hands down this is the most practical, hard-wearing bag I've ever had. I balked at spending £65 on a nylon shopper but I would do so again. I'd get a handbag liner (pennies on ebay) though as they only have one crappy inside pocket.

Love mine and never had a problem with the handles slipping.

They stay on fine. I absolutely love mine. I prefer it to my Mulberry Blush

Panickypete · 08/03/2018 15:41

Some of the smaller le pliage have short rounded handles, but the bigger ones have the longer ones to go over the shoulder. Mine always stayed on my shoulder no problem. Great bag.

PNGirl · 08/03/2018 16:37

As long as you get a long-handled one where they look like a tall arch instead of round, they're fine. The weight of the bag and the textured leather keeps them in place.

WaitrosePigeon · 08/03/2018 16:41

Never had a problem with them. They really are great bags.

chimpandzee · 08/03/2018 19:12

They're great and really comfortable, and do stay in place as others have said. I have bought a few on Ebay. You need to shop around and be patient for the good condition second hand ones, and watch out for overseas fakes, but the last one I bought (medium sized shopper with long handles) I won in an auction for £17 and it was in mint condition.

Fekko · 08/03/2018 19:18

They are good. You can usually pick them up in the sales if you aren't too hung up on colour. And if you bugger up the handle or zip dangly bit (on the rucksacky ones) they fix it for you for free if you take it back to the store (can take a while though as it goes to France and apparently the whole country closes for August).

SesameSparkle · 08/03/2018 22:33

I have a new shopper with the long handles and I do struggle to get it to stay on my shoulder. I was wondering if there is anything I could try.

Longdistance · 08/03/2018 22:40

Some have shorter handles than others. I have a longer handled one, and love it.

They’re the best bags.

I have a smaller one which I’ve had for about 10 years, and have a larger one which I’ve had about 3 years. Great bags.

UnnecessaryFennel · 09/03/2018 15:16

The long-handled ones are fine. I love mine - I know they're a bit naff and every other woman on the tube in the morning has one but they're so useful and roomy and hard-wearing and practical and frankly I'd never be without mine now.

PNGirl · 09/03/2018 15:20

I have been a bit disappointed with the corner wear on mine though. It happened within a few weeks. I know I can get it fixed but I don't live near a retailer.

TroubledLichen · 09/03/2018 15:27

As long as it’s the long handled variety you’ll be absolutely fine. Love mine so much I’ve expanded my range and have a huge one for weekends away, the backpack and even one with a luggage strap that I use as a baby changing bag Blush

It’s probably basic bitch territory but quite frankly I don’t care!

Jfw82 · 09/03/2018 15:37

Love mine, use it to carry laptop work papers home etc for when am working from home. No problems with it slipping off my shoulder (something many laptop bags used to annoy me by doing) just such a handy bag

polyhymnia · 09/03/2018 22:22

Yes have several - all long handled- and been using my oldest one more than 10 years. Never any trouble about slipping off shoulders.

SpeckledyHen · 10/03/2018 06:34

I have several in different sizes have no trouble with them . To me they are the perfect carry on flight bag .
