How to avoid blisters

Does anyone have any advice on blister avoidance? Getting new shoes has become a nightmare- every pair takes ages to wear in.

My feet are small (size 4) and narrow, particularly at the heel which I think is the main problem- my heels slip in and out of the shoe constantly and I blister horribly. I’ve tried getting shoes a size bigger and have ordered narrow fit shoes to no avail.

Blister patches. Compeed or even supermarket own brand. They work wonders.

Maiden is right. The only way to avoid is to wear blister patches until you've softened the shoe.

Chiropody foam is good to stick on the shoe too.

Both together and you're guaranteed not to get a blister.

Boots sell a rub thing that puts like a silicone coating on your foot to prevent rubbing. I think it works well

Thank you, I’ll try all of these.

Has anyone with narrow heels succeeded in finding shoes to fit well? And if so where?!

I like the rubber heel protector things (a bit like the Party Feet or whatever they were called to go under the ball of your foot, but it's a strip that sticks across the back of the heel).

Compeed works brilliantly

Compeed. If applied per instructions it sticks on for days.

How long do you all use them for? Have stocked up now but can’t bear the thought of wearing my new loafers again until they heal!

Suede heel grips. Get them off eBay!

I suffer from blisters and the only thing that works for me is to break them in. If the leather is really stiff conditioner really helps soften the leather

Paranormalbouquet · 09/03/2018 00:02

@goose1964 how do you deal with the pain while breaking them in?!

I’m not bad in boots (less slippage I think) but day to day flats are a pain (literally!). I’d pay good money for a really comfy pair that don’t blister me!

My jigsaw pumps never rub , they are £100 but worth it . I appreciate they aren't everyone's taste but still .

goose1964 · 09/03/2018 20:19

i wear the until they start to hurt, usually around the house. After a few wears it does take longer for them to hurt

MuddlePuddle · 09/03/2018 21:48

If you can fit them in, then wearing two pairs of socks usually works, the socks rub against each other rather than your foot rubbing on your shoe, but sometimes it might make your shoes too tight.

Clarks. I have such narrow heels that I can't wear slip-ons or ballet pumps. I usually get a blister with first wear, then I avoid wearing the shoes till it's healed and usually that's it. No recurring blister. I mostly wear rogues.

Rinceoir · 09/03/2018 22:13

Brogues from Clarks have caused current blisters I’m afraid. I’ve ordered heel grips, hopefully they will help.
