If you've had short hair did you like it?

Because I'm thinking of getting my hair cut short, as in like Sienna Miller style when she had it really short (and my hair is similar texture/colour.)

Did you regret it? Was it hard work because it kept growing out too quick?

Experiences would be great please!

I've had a pixie cut for most of my adult life and i love it. I get loads of compliments on my hair. My one piece of advice though is to go to a hairdresser who you suspect might be too "trendy" or "young" for you - they won't be, and you will get a much better short haircut. You want it choppy and textured so that it looks good flat or tweaked with product.

i've had some AWFUL experiences with recommended hairdressers who, on hearing that i'm 40 and a solicitor, give me the most god-awful, old-fashioned efforts you've ever seen.

Find a hipster hairdresser and you'll be fine :)

Prepare for the cost, too! I used to have a dry trim every other visit, just to keep the cost down. Love the Michelle Collins cut.

Love these Sienna pics. I do think the colour does a lot for it though. When I was short and mouse blonde my hair felt very different to when I then had colour out in.

Also, this is nice with a sweeping fringe

I hadn’t realised that actress looks like Michelle Collins but it’s not her. It’s someone from a current BBC drama called Keeping Faith.

MochaRioja · 08/03/2018 17:41

My hair is fine but lots of it! I'm an "Ash blond" colour naturally but put a home dye a few shades lighter on it every now and then. I'm only early 30s, no grey hairs and look young for my age.

I've always thought I would get a very short cut one day but always too scared. I think it's the regular trims I'd hate tbh because they can be pricey, even just for a wet cut trim.

oh, its not michelle collins! similar! still, a lovely time
less style

I have short hair and I love it - I think it’s much more youthful as I’ve got older. Much more modern and funky. My hair is its natural colour and grey is much less obvious it just looks blond. Bit of a myth that it’s easier - quick to dry of course, but still needs a bit of styling and is usually sticking up on end when I wake up! You also need frequent trims to keep in shape. Love that actress from Keeping Faith - far prefer short hair to long hair in general.

I think it depends on your jaw line and neck. I have had pixie cuts twice, and I loved them at the time, but I eventually decided my face was too fat and my neck too short. I had mine white blonde and that was amazing but hugely expensive and I eventually couldn’t afford the upkeep. I also found that it wasn’t so much the regular haircuts that bothered me, it was that you never had the same cut in a row, even when asking for the same thing and with the same person. One cut in three was brilliant but a small variation here or there seemed to ruin it.

SukiTheDog · 08/03/2018 19:53

@MaryLennox I agree with that. I couldn’t understand how the same stylist could keep messing up my hair when she cut it short the first time and having loved it, I wanted the same thing again. In the end I tired of a hairdo that only looked good every blue moon.

Mine's almost exactly the same as the Michelle Collins lookalike.

I only dyed it silver blonde 2 months ago and I love it. Random women keep coming up to tell me how much they like it Grin.

DH loves it too.

I get it cut and coloured every 6 weeks. You have to wash and style it every morning or you look like Worzel Gummage.

I have had short hair for a few years and love it. It is on the punky side now, clippered short at the sides and longer on top. Will find a similar pic.

Am quite grey, no dye

Thedogsmells · 08/03/2018 21:40

This sort of thing

I've got a short pixie cut and it's the easiest and best style ever. I love it.

Sadly i bear little resemblence to jean seberh but my hair is cut like hers. Iam 50 and straky grey, i have more complements now about my hair than at any other time in my life! It depends on your face shape I think.

I have very fine hair so was sceptical about getting it cut. I started out with Sienna's cut but ended up getting it much shorter with a longer fringe swept to the side. Iv always dyed my hair bleach blonde but went silver with the shorter cut. I also have a long fattish face. Loads of people stop me & say they love my hair. I'm more shocked than anyone as I had it cut out of necessity rather than choosing to have it done. It is a lot more maintenance as you need it cut more regularly but if your brave enough just go for it. Go on Pinterest & find styles you like & take it from there.

mydogisthebest · 08/03/2018 23:38

Thedogsmells, my haircut sounds the same as yours.

I have had short hair for years. My hair is dead straight and very thick and just suits a short style. Longer it just looks awful. I had a spiky style for quite a few years and it was great because it stands up on it's own - no need for wax or anything.

It's easy to look after and as I wash my hair every day it's great because I can either let it dry on it's own or quickly blast it with a hairdryer.

The only pain is that it needs cutting every 4 weeks. I also get it dyed silver grey so a bit of an expense
