Need some help please to update dd wardrobe - need some ideas please to stop me from getting it wrong. Very conscious she's not a small child anymore but also don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves!

She hates jeans loves leggings (has millions of pairs) but all suggestions welcome.

Why not take her shopping and ask her what she likes? H&M would be a good place to start.

Dd is also 10 ( 11) in June and has always had clothes from mainly Boden and Joules. Both her and I are aware that big appliqué t shirts etc are now a bit young.
We had a good sort through the other day and culled what was too small. We then had a good look online and placed an order with a Next and Monsoon. The next stuff was mainly leggings ( 5 packs at £24) , plain t shirts, jeans and a couple of prettier blouses. From Monsoon we ordered a new denim jacket, a couple of summer dresses, some appliqués denim shorts and some plain jean material lilac shorts.
She already has a nice plainish Jack Wills sweatshirt and plenty of Fat face fleeces.
The other places we've shopped over the winter have been Lands End and John Lewis, all a bit more grown up but not too much so.
Hope that helps.

My DD is 11, her favourite shops are H&m and Sainsburys. Fast fashion from both and they always have a good supply of leggings, H&m jeggings are lovely and soft and wear well.
Primark is always worth a trawl if you have a decent sized one - unfortunately we don't.
Nowadays she actually wears very little. Favourite clothes are constantly worn and things I thought she would love and I spent more money on are left sometimes unworn.
I haven't bought anything since Xmas and won't be buying anything without her from now on.
The camo shorty hoodie, red rose dress, black tights and Adidas Superstars are the current best loved clothing snd have been since December.

My 10 yr dd loves her black jeggings from river island, a totoro sweater she lives in, checked shirt from gap and hooded tops from new look. We have very different taste. She loves cropped hoodies but I tell her she can only wear one with a vest underneath. Also adidas sweaters and converse.

My dd has just turned 11 and is very fussy about her clothes both in terms of comfort and style. We usually have success in New Look's teen department. She usually lives in leggings and various tops.

I would let your dd take the lead - does she actually want new clothes or do you feel she should?

CallarMorvern · 06/03/2018 11:19

DD 12, but has been wearing similar clothes for the last two years.
She likes Primark, Adidas, Ellesse, EBay ( for printed leggings), Asda, Sainsbos, New look. She also really likes Johnnie B, but I just can't afford it anymore.
Her favourite outfits are...
Black skater dress with small star print from Asda and black tights.
Adidas leggings and Ellesse hoody
Black knitted rib dress from M&S kids.
Pink Cropped sweatshirt from New look, layered with longer tops and jeggings.
My little pony Manga print leggings, which are her most favourite thing ever, with denim dungaree shorts over.
She wears Adidas Superstar trainers with everything. She has 2 pairs, plain black that double as school shoes and white with black stripes.

Next jeggings are good as a jeans compromise.

Dr Martens are a good footwear choice.

My dd wants these dungarees from H&M.

I have two DD's, 10 and 12... they love New look 9-15 range, and H and M. They are also quite into branded sports wear just now (unfortunately as it's costs insane money but good for eg birthday presents) so they hanker after Adidas and Nike leggings and jumpers and the like...
On Sunday i took them to TK max for the first time with their Christmas money. They were agog at what they could get there after a bit of hunting about...they are tiny though so had to resist themselves to the extra small sections.

My DD is nearly 10 and loves Zara, in fact doesn't seem to want to wear anything else. Mango also great (quite pricey but have good sales) also H&M as above.Zara has some lovely things in at the moment (and some not so lovely things, I grant you). Also Arket have some lovely things, but again quite pricey.

My 10 year old dd loves Zara and Next. Does she like wearing skirts or dresses?

Toomanycats99 · 06/03/2018 12:15

I took my dd clothes shopping as her 10th birthday present - she loves it. Clothes wise she likes leggings (sometimes with shorts over) t shirts and hoody's. Lives in converse. Also tends to only favour black white and grey! Good shops for her are hennes and new look and sometimes primark.

Thebluedog · 06/03/2018 13:40

I’ve literally just done the same thing with my dd who’s also 10 last weekend. We went into New Look, and took everything she liked the look of into the changing room and had a good old giggle trying it all on. Cost me a fortune but she finally looks her age and is starting to get her own style. She absolutely loved it too. Our first joint clothes shopping trip Grin

magickingdom82 · 06/03/2018 14:34

I was going to say H&M. Cheap and there's a mixture of plain separates if you look hard or more fashiony type items if she wanted. Don't spend a fortune.

StellaWouldYouTakeMeHome · 06/03/2018 22:28

Let her choose her own stuff. My 6 year old only wears tshirts and leggings at home while her 3 year old sister wears dresses always. They both choose their own

Sittinonthefloor · 06/03/2018 22:35

Let her choose? My dd of a similar age has just explained that I 'don't really understand her style' (I do; its hoodies). She loves fatface about£20 for a hoody and v well made. Not too girly. She always wears the same favourite things so I don't mind spending a bit more but on less things. She hates shopping but likes looking online.

CountFosco · 06/03/2018 23:32

My DD1 (also 10) is just beginning to show some interest in clothes and mainly to reject any prettification. She now only wears trousers to school after refusing to for ages. It's all jeans and trainers at the weekend as well and she loves a Boden breton. There's not much clothing rebellion yet. Suspect that might come when the 8 year old gets older, she has always been much more creative in her clothing choices!
