Has anyone culled all/most of their wardrobe and started again more or less?

And if so, how did you do it and was it worth it??

I turned 50 last December and, whilst I've always liked clothes, I've felt in a bit of a style rut for the last few years, probably since having my youngest of three children 7 years ago. I'm so tempted to have a massive throw out session to charity and rethink/restart my wardrobe, perhaps with fewer and better quality items, but I'm also too scared to take the plunge! Obviously I'm looking older now and my shape has inevitably changed over the years but I do want to (hopefully!) stay looking fashionable/stylish and not mumsy - I'm fortunate that I can afford some decent quality clothes but I'm also open minded re shops/brands etc. I just feel so meh about most of my things nowadays - there are few things I really love and I also have way too much atm. Has anyone been joyously ruthless and actually done this?? Your advice/stories would be much appreciated - positive and otherwise! Smile

I've done this on a major scale twice and it was the best thing I could do. I have no real sense of style/what suits and went to a 'Colour Me Beautiful' consultant. Best thing ever. Not cheap but has saved me a fortune over the years. Go for it.

No I agree with that Honey, I don't tend to keep things just for best either, I don't go out very much anyway so it'd be a waste! My husband has cottoned on to a lovely jewelry store nearby that I like and has bought me some lovely things from him and the kids for birthdays/Christmas/Mother's day etc recently (I also have some vouchers still to spend there from family members for my 50th) and I wear these things daily, I just need to get organised and up my game a bit with my daily wardrobe!

Hush, mint velvet and white company make up the vast majority of my wardrobe, particularly white company for work. They have fab sales and I own about ten jersey dresses which are so useful.

I also have some plainer pieces from white stuff, joules, Boden and fat face and for treats, whistles and jigsaw. Great Plains is also worth a look.

Not by choice...the moths decreed it (basically the little fuckers nibbled through my stuff whilst it was in storage. The pain was horrendous to unpack all these lovely half eaten wool/cashmere items).

I'm more prosaic now about wardrobe items and less fussy about fabric.
