Tell me about lash extensions!

I'm expecting baby no. 3 in just 3 weeks. I am someone who needs make up on even if I'm slobbing at home Blush. Looking for things to shorten make up routine / help me wake up feeling fabulous looking (or at least passable). Ive tried dying my eyelashes but they are so fine, short and straight that it doesn't make any difference. I was wondering about lash extensions but worry they look uncomfortable or high maintenance. I'd love to be able to climb out of bed with nice looking eyes but I don't want to risk needing frequent salon trips as i can't do that with a newborn. Or finding them irritating or will they fall off?Confused I tend to wear an eye mask in bed so I don't know if that would be a problem too?

I have semi permanent lashes, and I do feel better about myself without make up (no need to wear mascara).
They are not uncomfortable at all- can't feel them- but they do need to be infilled at the salon every two weeks.
I don't wear an eye mask, but I would think that could shorten the life of the lashes.

I have Russian extensions and love them. I don’t bother with eye make up now so it takes me half the time it used to do a full face. First session was 2hrs and I have infills every 2 weeks which takes an hour. Having to go 3 weeks due to a trip away and I’m really noticing the gaps. They fall out with your natural lashes so depending on where the lash is in it’s cycle depends on how long it’ll last. Only maintenance is brushing them daily. I’ve had a good look at my natural lashes and they actually seem longer and in better condition so I guess coating in mascara is pretty shit for them! Find someone who makes their own fans, they’ll be lighter than the pre-made ones and better for your own lashes.

I have the semi permemant lashes too, and like the pp I feel like my make up is SO much quicker now. I love them! Mine last 2 weeks, but I would say I’m def ready for the infill by about day 10 as mind get quite gappy. I don’t get mine wet ever, so my only - very minor - complaint is that sometimes I’d love to give my face a good scrub and I can’t! Love them, dooooo it and get them!

I loved having lash extensions, very addictive and loved not having to wear very much makeup as they made me look much more put together (in my mind!)

Like PP said you will need to have your lashes infilled every 2 weeks as your natural lashes fall out taking the extensions with them. My lash lady would also recommend that all lashes were removed periodically (every few months or so) and a full set applied again.

When I stopped having them I did notice that my lashes were damaged, but that may of been because I kept getting them longer and thicker and did not give my lashes a break for almost 2 years! My natural
Lashes did recover just fine, but it takes a while to get used to yourself without them.

Sleeping with an eye mask will crush them whilst you are sleeping, resulting in the curl being damaged I think and looking much less “perfect”.

Have you heard of LVL lash lift? It’s not lash extensions but it’s a sort of lash perm and lift that makes your lashes look much longer and thicker for up to 6 weeks. Might be worth looking into if you couldn’t commit to the appointments required for lash extensions when baby arrives.

Surely when you add up the time it takes to get the lash extensions done, 2 hours, the infills every two weeks, 1 hour, plus travelling to salon, parking up, getting someone to look after your children while you get them done, putting on some mascara in the morning probably takes one minute!! You will be adding hours of time to your routine not reducing it.

Ah ok, they sound gorgeous but I'm not sure I could manage an hour every 2 weeks at the moment. Thanks for the info!

I've been having mine done for about a year. It's dramatically shortened my getting ready routine and they look gorgeous.
I only get mine infilled every 4 weeks. When my lash technician had a baby, I went 7 weeks- by the end, they just looked like normal lashes with a little mascara as they fall out evenly with natural lashes. I like my lashes best at 2.5 weeks as they look more natural. I don't pick or touch them at all and wash them with baby shampoo every day.

I'm an optometrist and am always seeing people complaining that their eyelash extensions have ripped out their eyelashes. So make sure you go somewhere with good recommendations.....or leave well alone!

I’m growing mine out right now. They look amazing and are fairly easy to care for in between visits for infills. BUT they will damage your eyelashes. I am on week 4 since my last week infill and have been using rapid lash for 2 weeks to try and promote lash growth. This weekend I trimmed down the remaining ones and I can now used regular mascara and my lashes look ok although much shorter than they used to be before extensions. They’ll grow back but there is a price to pay for fab extensions!

Thanks for all the responses. They do sound a bit high maintenance for me.at the moment and I'd be terrified of them damaging my natural lashes- I don't have much to start with!!
