House of colours

Finally went and had my colours done a while ago. Bought a few items in my new colours. Haven’t had a single comment on any of them! I stopped wearing some of the clothes I used to wear regularly (that I did get the odd comment on). Anyway, I wore a couple of them again recently and got the “oh I like you in that “ from a work colleague and someone else. Have my colours just been done wrong?!

Could be. Did your new clothes correctly reflect your style personality tho? Or were they random items in the "right" colour?
In theory you should get compliments for your colours especially near your face but you have to be comfortable with the style to wear it well imo. There are some online guides / quizzes you can do to check. What season are you btw?

Hi, yes, as it happens they were just the same items in new colours (think plain tshirt in my colours as opposed to plain tshirt in colours I used to choose based on what I thought suited me). They were close to my face as it happens. I’m an autumn apparently but had been wearing more spring like colours.

Great you're doing all the right things then (not that I'm an expert just trying to think of the advice I was given!)
I wonder if it's just because spring colours are usually just brighter and therefore more noticeable? I have a friend who's autumn and she looks lovely, very elegant and warm and natural. I'm sure you look fab too but understand you want to feel it! Autumn and spring do overlap a bit - you could try another HoC consultant or go Colour Me Beautiful- their analysis is more nuanced so might get to the bottom of it.

Hi again

Yes, I could always try another consultant but I spent years debating on having my colours done as I wasn’t 100% convinced that all stylists would be equally as good! It’s also a lot of money to spend again. I thought the new colours looked nice on me but then I thought the older colours looked nice too! Ugh. I wonder if it was to do with the sunlight streaming into the room that somehow changed my colouring.

If you're not sure that they've been done accurately it's worth talking again to the consultant that did them.

Do you have any friends that have had theirs done who can give you an informed opinion too? In my experience it can take a while to 'get your eye in' and make new colours work well.

PurpleNailVarnish · 06/03/2018 00:03

I've had my HoC colours done twice.
One said I was spring and one said summer.
I don't know which is right now so I've gone back to wearing colours I like and I get far more compliments than I did when I was buying my colours.

I know that's no help OP but maybe confidence really is the most attractive thing after all Smile

Had a thought. Sounds like you're definitely warm so you now need to determine whether you're also light or clear ( spring ) or deep or soft ( autumn).

The light / deep thing is fairly straightforward- which colours do you feel you look best in, light or dark? If not sure then try the next test for clear / soft

Try bright emerald v muted moss / khaki and / or bright red v rust .

Hope that makes sense, let us know if you plump one way or another!

hmmwhatatodo · 08/03/2018 22:35

Hi again

No, sadly I don’t have any friends that I know of who have had their colours done.

It must be a bit annoying to have had your colours done twice and been given different results!
I’m a soft autumn leaf apparently. I don’t feel I suit dark colours towards my face. I never thought that khaki was a great colour for me, I even threw a khaki jumper away and then my colours give me khaki type colours as being great for me.

The sunshine was quite strong on the day I went and was glaring into the room, I had to move my chair a few times due to the lighting. I wonder if this totally changed my colours?

@Hopefully is a HOC consultant and an autumn. Hopefully, she'll see this and be able to give you some advice.

I know that people usually say to contact your consultant again if you're not sure about what she's said.

Tatapie · 09/03/2018 23:49

If you don't like dark colours and khaki I would say you are a spring not an autumn.
Definitely refer back to the consultant.

hmmwhatatodo · 11/03/2018 10:03

Thanks Tatapie, yes I think I should probably do that. Ugh!
