My DH oldest friend is having a party to celebrate hitting the big 40 and I can?t think of anything to give him! I know that being DH oldest friend should make it his problem but.....

The guy is pretty much tea total so 40 yr old Bottle of brandy is out. Can anyone think of anything? Guys your input is very much welcomed!!

Something from the year he was born, like an annual, if you could get hold of one?
Do you have a very old photo of him and your dh together that you could perhaps frame?

100 places before oyu die book

oha dn we need a budget

BethBoo · 04/05/2007 14:13

I suggested the photo idea to DH and he groaned! Didn?t come up with any other idea mind just groaned!

Budget wise was thinking around £50 but if he continues to groan at every suggestion I will be adding a massive finders fee!

Personalised Monopoly?

Y0rkshirelass · 04/05/2007 14:18

erm...

40 lottery tickets?

One of those experience days, is he in to racing cars/planes/helicopters?

Or what about making up a 'getting old' survival kit including things like a nasal hair plucker, a bottle of Grecian 2000, a pair of slippers, etc.

(not suggesting 40 is old BTW, before I get stoned by 40+ MNers!)

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/05/2007 14:20

What sort of personality does he have?

My dh is somewhat of a geek, and one of the great pressies he got for his 40th was a binary watch.

If he's a foodie, you could adopt an olive tree and receive a couple of bottles of the oil during the year.

Look on www.moonpig.com for hilarious personalised cards, you can upload photos on some of them.

Just ordered a lovely meat hamper for my dad from Jimmy's Farm - The Essex Pig company.

CSWS personality wise he is a big kid and loves playstation games so this a big scary age for him. Something fun that can make him giggle will go down well.

I like Mars' idea of a small pressie every day for 40days in run up to b'day.

Probably too late and out of budget tho?

SlightlyMadSkyscraper · 04/05/2007 14:29

Wrap the pressie (once you have worked out what it is) in 40 layers of paper a la pass the parcel. We did this for MIL (60th) and it went down a hoot. We put the 'age' confetti at intermediate layers like 18, 21, 30, 40...

SlightlyMadSkyscraper · 04/05/2007 14:32

Why is this in style? Did you want clothes?

BethBoo · 04/05/2007 14:37

Just picked a board that was related to shopping! Do not want to start buying clothes for someone else?s husband!! Its bad enough getting the odd thing for mine!

Liked the wrapping idea

Thw wrapping idea went down very well for MIL. Got a bit boring after the first 10 or so layers, so a little something to look for between (some) of the layers might be good (e.g. confetti, sweets...).

We also felt it should be explicit that there was 40 (60 in our case) layers i.e. number them or every 5th one etc. - so they could understand the 'joke'

SlightlyMadSkyscraper · 04/05/2007 14:44

Oh and pressie got very bulky with 60layers on so I hope it starts small, and try and use tissue paper if you can.
