How can I reduce the redness in my skin?

I’ve a mixture of high colour and tiny veins. And a few open pores. I don’t wear makeup regularly but I know a green tone under foundation would help. I’d never need blusher
I’m pushing 50 and it’s been like this for years. Im not spotty. I’m very pale so the contrast doesn’t help.
Is there anything I can try?

Have you been to your GP or seen a dermatologist to rule out rosacea? It isn’t always the case that you’d get spots with it.

I get a very red flushed nose and I’d love to know how to conceal it!

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 01/03/2018 16:26

Posted too so , sorry.

If it is skincare, then something very gentle and basic; you don’t want to go crazy using hot cloths and loads of acid toners, though salicylic acid might be ok. Moisturiser and SPF (or just an spf for day and moisturise st night).

glitterbiscuits · 01/03/2018 16:29

No, I’ve not been to the GP.
It gets much redder when I’m hot. I’m mainly using Liz Earle stuff so it’s quite gentle.

I think CC cream helps with this sort of thing. Most brands seem to do it. I have some cheap CC cream from Lidl that evens out the skin tone well (a special buy so not in stock every week)

Tantpoke · 01/03/2018 17:55

Liz Earle products are not gentle so may even be aggravating your skin with their added 'naturally active ingredients'

Give the La Roche Posay Toleraine range a try, avoiding any richer products with shea butter.

StarShapedWindow · 01/03/2018 18:28

I have very pink cheeks and find bare minerals foundation the best for quick coverage. If I want coverage to last a full day I use liz earle’s liquid concealer followed by the bare minerals powder foundation and then Benefit’s Hoola bronzer swiped over the reddest part of my cheeks. I find this keeps my cheeks looking ‘normal’ all day.

glitterbiscuits · 01/03/2018 20:23

Thanks. I will look at those suggestions.

I have rosacea, have tried lots of creams etc but genuinely the thing that reduces redness quickest is sudocreme applied at night. I had a flare up recently and did look much better after a couple of nights of sudocrem. Though my kids do ask why I am putting bum cream on my face.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 01/03/2018 20:33

The Liz Earle cleanser and toner were too fragranced for me and made my cheeks very red and sore. The fragrance free moisturiser, Superskin, I think, might be ok, though. Aveeno is quite soothing, too.
Bare minerals doesn’t suit me; I’m still looking for something to cover my nose that doesn’t wipe away easily; as soon as I blow my nose my makeup is gone, usually within about 10 minutes of my car journey to work!

smythspamper · 01/03/2018 20:41

I use pur redness reducing (green) primer on my red nose and cheeks only. Let it dry then put pur illuminate and glow primer all over. Dust with bobbi brown nude illuminating powder then quick blusher, mascara and lippy. The green primer really works covering the redness but it made the rest of my face look a weird colour.

teta · 02/03/2018 09:28

The only thing that helps eliminate redness is Ipl.
Unfortunately fair skin that blushes easily is more susceptible to Rosacea. Which can be caused by a genetic predisposition and sun damage.

FuckyDucky · 02/03/2018 09:33

Pai skincare is nice although expensive.
Kalme do a really nice tinted moisturiser, it’s called Chameleon Concealer. Goes on green but then adapts your skin tone. Super easy to blend and build coverage.

FuckyDucky · 02/03/2018 09:36

Someone on another thread recommended Darphin, never tried it myself but it’s worth a shot.
Also IT cosmetics do some anti-redness products and their CC cream is meant to be good. I keep going on their website but haven’t got round to ordering anything. I’m not sure I’ll find anything I’ll like as much as the Kalme one. Some stuff settles in my pores but that never does and makes me reluctant to try something different.

teta · 02/03/2018 09:41

I forgot to say that Mirvaso can be used for a 12 hour effect of damping down the redness.I have a private prescription for this, but I’m not sure my gp would prescribe it. It can cause rebound flushing in some cases though. I was thinking of using it for special occasions only where I really don’t want to look flushed.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/03/2018 09:41

That might have been me who recommended Darphin.

It’s the Intral range and it’s good, the serum is very scented but good and the cream really works, well, at less for me.

It’s expensive though, so see if you can find sample sizes.

Something else I use is Fenistil gel from the chemists, I stock up in Switzerland, not sure If they sell it here.

margaritasbythesea · 02/03/2018 13:22

That´s interesting about Fenestil. I have it in the house but just for insect bites (which it is not very good for!)

I would second the La Roche Posay Toleraine range. It´s very gentle and my skin produces much less oil when I am using it as a bonus.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 02/03/2018 13:41

Is it this
www.amazon.co.uk/Fenistil-Gel-Fast-Relief-Bites/dp/B00FKSR5PA?tag=mumsnetforum-21
I wonder does it work in a way similar to Soolantra or maybe reduces inflammation. Good to know what’s out there.
I’ve seen darphin on space NK online but never tried it because of the price. I actually liked the Clinique rednesss relief cleanser and moisturiser.

glitterbiscuits · 06/03/2018 10:21

I’ve order some Darphin so I will report back.

I’ve also put some Clinique in the order.

Payday treats!

Darphin is so heavily scented! It made my skin itch and I can tolerate a lot by way of retinols & acids

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/03/2018 10:38

It is scented, try some before you order OP. Space Nk and John Lewis carry it.

I still find it brilliant, but YMMV.

margaritasbythesea · 06/03/2018 13:18

I had the samee xperienc ewith elemis which is often recommended for sensitive skin. It smelt very strongly of essential oils on opening the bottle and when I put it on I could see a red rash emerging as I passed the cotton woll over my cheek. That was one expensive mistake.

Yet to try the Fenestil!

MissEliza · 06/03/2018 15:14

La Roche Posay toleraine really sorted my skin out. It's great value for money.
