Silk nightcap

Have just impulse-bought one of these (blaming my post-nightshift, easily-led-by-internet-reviews state) in an attempt to improve my hair condition - long but starting to get a lot of breakage higher up. Does anyone use one? Is it any good? Is there any possible way of turning up to bed in it and not giving DP a fright??

Where did you get it from? My DD wants one.

silkpyjamasallday · 01/03/2018 07:31

I use one from SILKE London, it's fab and really came into its own when cosleeping with dd who likes playing with my hair. I also have silk pillowcases, it really does improve the texture of your hair, I wake up with semi-dreadlocks if I don't use the turban or the pillows. I think my turban looks quite chic!

Get DH a Wee Willy Winkie night hat then he can't complain (you can actually buy them out the back of The Times magazine along with gentlemans' night dresses.

Really tempted to buy a silke wrap - £45 though ! and dry clean only @silkpyjamasallday - have you tried hand washed yours?

silkpyjamasallday · 02/03/2018 22:19

@ggirl I bung mine in the washing machine on a delicates cycle with silk and wool wash and its always been fine.

ggirl · 02/03/2018 22:47

ah that's good thanks silkpyjamasallday

So I bought the Silke one in a fetching blue and green. Wore it to bed last night, DP's reaction was "so this is your way of signalling when you don't want to have sex?" 🙄
However, my hair was silky and tangle-free this morning so the nightcap is staying!

ooh , i bought a cheap version from amazon , will try tonight and feed back

I love those turbans but I want to wear it outside! Would that look ridiculous?

mamamia999 · 08/03/2018 07:26

I’ve had one for a while - although it seems rip-off expensive (£45 one) it is amazing for my hair, think if u wear it all the time it really improves the condition. Only downside is that husband thinks I look like some kind of Nora Batty when I wear it in bed and it’s a massive turn off! But my hair is great in the morning so hey ho.

Do the silk pillow cases really work then?

DS2's curly hair turns into a matted mess, and then of course he hates having his hair combed, and also doesn't want me to cut it, and any kind of hair -accessory is either rejected, or just pops straight off his little round head - so I'm looking for something that might help with the weekly conditioner comb-through while he complains that I'm pulling (and daily squirt and refresh while he complains..)...

ggirl · 08/03/2018 10:03

swivel - it helps a lot but it's not miraculous

silkpyjamasallday · 08/03/2018 12:17

@swivelchair Silk pillowcases are almost as effective as the turbans, you can get them for just under £20 from Amazon, and more likely to work for male DC who are unlikely to want to wear the turbans. I wake up with matted dreadlocks if I don't use my turban and am away from home with normal cotton pillowcases.

swivelchair · 08/03/2018 12:27

I think I'll exercise the credit card then - cos, no, there's no way I'll get him in a turban - he won't even let me do something to pull it back, and anything to even slightly reduce the weekly 'time to do your curls' fight....

Thanks very much!
