What's good for crepey under eye skin?

Just beginning to notice this now.. skin under my eyes looking more translucent, thin, and crepey. Joys of ageing. I don't use an eye cream, my friends say I should but I don't want to spend £££ on something that may or may not have any decent active ingredients.. I currently use nivea or lidl's soya moisturiser that had brilliant reviews a few months back.

Following as I have this issue too

I had a birthday last weekend and took the opportunity to indulge at the hairdresser. The lights were much brighter than the ones in my bathroom and I'm ashamed to say that I ended up spending a large part of the rest of the day online searching for information about anti-aging that actually work!

I'm in science and am generally pretty skeptical about creams that come with claims of miraculous improvements. My impression has been that moisturizing creams can help prevent skin degradation because dry skin tends to wrinkle more easily...

That said, one thing that many scientists in the cosmetics industry seem to agree on is that retinol works. This is something I have seen in articles for years now. I'm not a cosmetician and can't tell you if it works from personal experience because the order I placed at the weekend only just arrived today!

In case you're interested, I got it from Amazon for just over 12 pounds. It's "RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Anti-Aging with Mineral Extracts." I chose it over other retinol-bearing products because it seems to have the very good reviews in articles I've seen and the price is good. I've also heard that "Boots" products that contain retinol are worthwhile.

In January I messages the Victoria Health website, described my skin - early 50s, basically good but with some mild wrinkles ,enlarged pores, and some sun damage.
Asked them to prescribed me a regime from The Ordinary. They recommended several products which totaled under £30 .

The effect on my skin is amazing. So many people have done a double take and asked me what I've done to my skin, and it was no disaster zone before. I've basically been resurfaced, my sun damage is 50% improved, as is my under eye area, and I can't remember my skin ever being so soft.
I've worn foundation for about 10 years, but now I just wear a little concealer, as my skin is now really quite luminous and dewy.

Check out previous threads about The Ordinary, it's really good stuff.

I've just started using 5% retinol from The Ordinary. No dramatic improvement but it's only been a couple of weeks. My friend swears that her skin has really improved using it and she's 4 weeks into using hers.

That's really interesting bzz7. I was of the same opinion as you, until I spoke to a friend who said I should use eye cream-and thought I would see what people said here. I mean, moisturiser has to help stop wrinkles as well as anything, surely. Doing research is difficult-you never know who's being endorsed by who, who is being honest etc. Ohyes I will check out 'the ordinary' too I have seen them mentioned before on here. I am just confused with all the different lotions and potions and what works/doesn't. I've used supposed 'miraculous' products in the past that I've not rated. Thanks all :)

Ohyes|am - please could you post your The Ordinary routine?

eloisesparkle · 01/03/2018 19:43

I use the Ordinary Caffeine for the eye area. I haven't seen any difference and am half way through the bottle.
What I do notice is a white film in the morning where I have put the solution.
Rather odd.

Ohyes, thanks for your earlier post! Last night I messaged VictoriaHealth and described my skin problems (oily, large pores, acne scars, crepey under eyes), and they gave me this list:

AM: Buffet, Hyaluronic acid; Niacinamide, Natural Moisturising Factors.
PM: Buffet, Azelaic Acid or Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (alternate these), Argan Oil.

Total ~£48, can't wait for the order to arrive. I will be adding on SPF for the AM.

OP you might want to get their suggestions for your skin type and issues

What's good from the ordinary for eyes ? My are crinkley too! They recommended hymalide subq eye whatsist to me but I am waiting to get paid before I buy it. It's £27 not too bad but I am trying to be good !

Actually I rate the ordinary as I had some enlarged pores in my chin which have gone through their regime

Justdontknow4321 · 02/03/2018 07:32

Who are these people that your messaging? Or website ...

The ordinary or Victoria health? Is there a difference ..

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2018 07:44

You can email either.

I use the aha peel and put a small amount under the eyes. I use caffeine 2 x a day.

Justdontknow4321 · 02/03/2018 07:58

Is this the right website ?

theordinary.com

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2018 08:02

Yes.

I’ve never used eye cream but I’ve always put my spf 50 all around my eyes. No wrinkles.

Antheia · 02/03/2018 09:08

VictoriaHealth sells products from The Ordinary and other brands. It's like Boots online.

You can click on their Live Chat Now link to have a chat with someone who can recommend a The Ordinary regime. If live chat isn't available, leave a message with your email address and they'll get back to you via email with their advice.
