Hi guys, if everyone has any spare time to answer my dissertation questionnaire please do. It'll take you literally less than 5 minutes and help me out a great deal!

www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7TNYHXJ

The link will take you to the questionnaire and give you all the information you need. It's totally anonymous as well.

Let me know what sort of beauty products you all love.

Done -
There is so much information out there now (but a lot of it confusing)
If I'm not 100% sure, I don't buy until I make DD do a search online.
DD is also "Bunny Friendly" and often points out the Cruelty Free cosmetics that she wants , but her tastes are more Urban Decay , Too Faced, Tarte and KatVonD compared to my BodyShop bargains.
I don't wear a lot of make-up so I'm not spending £20 on a mascara that will get used half a dozen times. DD will use it till its done before the 3 months are up.

student96 · 04/03/2018 16:50

I think the whole subject area is a bit murky, especially since some brands are 'cruelty-free' but are own by conglomerates that own brands that do test on animals.

It's an interesting subject, and I love hearing peoples views. I really want to share the results of my project on here but for there to be a project I need more respondents!

Can I get a little help and whoever has a spare minute or two please fill this in. You'll be a lifesaver x

Done!😊

TheNavigator · 04/03/2018 20:05

Done. My New Year Resolution was to only buy cruelty free cosmetics. Good old M&S is great for having products with the leaping bunny.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/03/2018 20:28

Murky is the word, I was going to buy something that was labelled Cruelty Free but noticed it was Made In China.

China insist on animal testing so if Ethical Company sells to China they will test it themselves before selling. I applaud the companies that say : No we won;t sell there,

But if China manufacture (and they are a HUGE manufacturer) do they insist on testing for export?

Its not just the cosmetics, its laundry . I use an EcoEgg for main washing and a non tested (Waitrose or Ecover) detergent if needed.

I have non leather shoes and bags (M&S are good)

TheNavigator · 04/03/2018 20:45

That is why I look for the leaping bunny, as it means the entire supply-chain has been checked. M&S is great for this.

student96 · 04/03/2018 21:32

The problem is that China is the world's largest cosmetics market so if any big cosmetics company wants a hand in that then the MUST test on animals. What sparked me to look into this was hearing last year that NARS (one of the world's biggest cosmetics companies) was dropping its cruelty free policy in order to enter the Chinese market.

I agree, M&S is brilliant in so many ways, from sustainability to cruelty-free. They are working towards being the worlds most ethical retailer, we should all support them

Btw thanks to everyone filling the questionnaire in, my numbers are rising Grin

Products only have to be tested in China if they are sold in china. Products can be made in China and still be cruelty free.

I don't personally go by the leaping bunny because there are companies with leaping bunny status who are owned by parent companies that test (urban decay being one that's owned by loreal) and as far as I'm concerned if the money ultimately ends with Loreal then it isn't truly cruelty free.

Cruelty Free is bloody hard.

suchatiredbunny · 04/03/2018 21:41

Done, glad to help. What I don't understand is why animal testing needs to be done when it's pretty clear that it's no longer necessary. It's such a shame that brands feel they have to use it for financial gain in the Chinese market.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 04/03/2018 21:50

I feel the tide is turning with animal testing. Whilst I don't buy from them the major companies (estee lauder and Loreal I believe) are working on lobbying the Chinese government to change their laws around testing. Let's hope they do... I shamefully miss using max factor foundation.

student96 · 04/03/2018 22:01

Unfortunately brands like benefit who make billions are still so hugely popular. They get to trade freely in China and the rest of the world. What encourages them to change ?

btw, just to add that this questionnaire/project is not meant in any way to judge anyone or anything like that. I love hearing peoples views. I myself admit openly that I am not a totally ethical purchaser, as much as i'd like to be. Sometimes other things take precedent, such as price or whats readily available.

Done, and bump for anyone who missed this earlier.
Good luck with your research.

Feawen · 05/03/2018 20:17

Done! I think that anyone sufficiently interested in taking a survey on ethical cosmetics has probably considered these issues - as you say, there is a responders bias - but I have tried to answer honestly.

needastrongone · 05/03/2018 20:58

Done👍

student96 · 11/03/2018 00:06

If anyone hasn't had a chance to fill this in and can PLEASE DO! Halo

I'm still slightly short of my target and the survey closes tomorrow night!

Everyone that has filled it and been leaving comments you don't understand how grateful I am Grin

whiteroseredrose · 11/03/2018 07:17

Just done it and I'll get DD to when she wakes up.

Problem is you might have a self selecting audience as 'cruelty free' would catch my eye because it's important to me and one of my sisters. The other doesn't care a hoot so the words wouldn't even register!

Hatewaybuloo · 11/03/2018 07:24

Done!

Unexpectedbaby · 11/03/2018 07:53

I have filled this out for you.

I find it difficult to preach too much cruelty free in cosmetics as I work for a group who's brands do sell in China. It is something that I do not agree with but I also see first hand why companies feel they must do this to break the Chinese market, which is huge. I do think it is good that so many of these brands are lobbying for China to stop animal testing though. It isn't a perfect system by any means.
