Best haircut for long thick wavy hair?

I have long (half way down back) thick wavy, curly hair. I'm in desparate need of a cut as it is very dry and quite frizzy! It only looks good when just washed. It's all the same length at the moment. Should I have layers or a razor cut? I don't want it to look any thicker and I know layers can sometimes do that with wavy, curly hair.

I have mid-length curly hair.

Razor cuts just make it really bushy.
A few well-cut layers would probably be better, but asking a hairdresser for advice (a good hairdresser who understands your hair, which is a big ask, I know) is your best bet.

I avoid razors, my hair ends up so frizzy after they’ve been used. I have a mix of mid length and long layers cut in.

Is it wavy or curly? I have slightly wavy hair and manage it with the mumsnet haircut - I am not handy but get compliments every time I cut it! Curly hair is quite different imo.

I'm the same, I have it feathered round the front and a couple of layers at the back. That way the waves can move and aren't weighed down making it look bulky?!

Whatever you do do not not not get a razor cut.I speak from experience. You will end up like Worzel Gummige , a complete frizz ball. which takes forever to grow out.Long layers would probably be the best meaning nothing shorter than below the ears.Conditioner is a must.

@AndhowcouldIeverrefuse what's the Mumsnet haircut?

tissuesosoft · 28/02/2018 11:46

Mum set haircut

neither of those, you'll look like Alice from Dilbert. You need a non-scissor happy hairdresser who will implement a long term programme of tiny trims.

Or wella straight or loreal xtenso - they take out the frizz and mean you get shine and can use a comb. Amazing. Last a year if properly done.

forget all standard haircuts, never work on curls or waves.

Thanks for all your replys! I will definitely leave the razor cut. Not brave enough for the mumsnet haircut tho Grin

I have wavy hair, and have long layers cut into it. I can not be doing with razor and feather cut anything - just leads to frizzy ends.

None of my layers are shorter than shoulder length, I have bra strap length hair. Definitely don't go shorter than shoulder length, your hair will resemble a triangle, unless that is what you want of course.

loobywench · 01/03/2018 08:49

Thanks I'll definitely ask for layers but not short ones

Long layered cut shaped around the face. Ask hairdresser to point cut and use thinning scissors on the layers. This has the opposite effect to razor cutting which will give you bushy puffy mushroom hair.

Thank you Smile
