Hair Mare: Doesn't grow, thin, curly & frizzy!

Hi.
I hoping I'm not alone here and maybe somebody has advice.
My hair is naturally curly, I don't colour it, don't use straighteners and wash it every 3 or 4 days. I leave it to air dry and rarely use a hairdryer. It gets trimmed once in a blue moon or I'll trim it myself, (not great I must add😁).
It's stopped growing!
I've tried Kykuí oil and biotin & collagen oil on the ends but it just made my hair look greasy. I tried silica complex but was advised that it can weaken bones and don't you know it, after taken it for 3 weeks I broke one ankle and fractured the other and currently I shampoo with Kukuí Oil hydrate & defrizz, I also use the same conditioner but I leave the conditioner in. This works amazing for my curls and frizz but over the last 3 years the length just stays the same!
My diet is good and fitness level is ok so what's going on?
Does anybody else have similar problems?
Thanks.
btw it's my first post 😊

How long is your hair now? Is it breaking off or just not growing as fast as it used to, so not "recovering" from trims? Presumably you are comparing stretched length to be sure you're not just curlier, which would disguise growth?

Hair has a lifecycle, so everyone has a maximum length depending on how long their hair stays in the growth phase and how fast it grows. My stepsister has hair to her bum, but mine never got much beyond bra strap length when I was younger.

I've never heard of Kukui oil? Or biotin oil, I use biotin supplements for my hair but they seem to only work on my nails. I have great nails but my hair still grows as slow as it always has.

Moroccan Oil is what most hairdressers I know recommend and weekly coconut oil masks. I do the coconut oil, it's made my hair much shinier and more manageable but I can't say it's made any difference to the length.

If one of my clients asked about treating snapping hair I'd recommend a deep moisture treatment such as Osmo Deep Intensive Deep Moisture Mask, Redken Extreme Anti Snap or Philip Kingsley elasticiser along with weekly Olaplex no 3 treatments at home and monthly treatments at the salon.

It's hard to say which you need without seeing your hair. If you take a strand and gently tug and it snaps right away you need moisture (coconut oil masks/Osmo/Philip Kingsley) if it stretches and stretches and then snaps you need protein (Redken). Olaplex works on any hair type by repairing the hairs internal structure.

Moroccan oil is used after washing/pre blow drying as an anti frizz serum but I use a tiny smidge on the very ends of my hair after drying to keep them moisturised.

It may just be how your hair grows.DDs would only grow to just above her shoulders until she was pregnant with DS3 when it started growing longer. Then she had to cut it short because he's a hair puller.

A bit drastic I know

Check with your doctor; you might need a thyroid and/or iron test.

I've got curly hair and it's really hard to tell if it's grown unless I straighten it, I rarely straighten it but when I do I'm always shocked at how much it has grown since the last time. When it's curly it always seems to look the same length, I've not cut my hair in years either.

My hair is the same. I use tresemme botanique shampoo and conditioner and treat with Philip Kingsley elasticiser which helps. I find it’s best when I take supplements.
I didn’t know about protein treatments will look at that sounds like it might help.

Hi.
Sorry I'm new to this and didn't realise I had so many replies. I often wonder is it growing but just curling up. It doesn't break it just doesn't seem to grow and I don't have many split ends from what I can see.
It's very curly, always frizzy especially during the summer and constantly shoulder length. It was great before I had the kids but I think they just take all the goodness out of us during pregnancy! 😁
Thanks for replying cause I thought I was alone. 😊

Would you consider trying a keratin straightening treatment? I think there is another treatment you can get which is better for your hair but I can’t rememeber what it’s called. My hair is frizzy/curly and always looks shorter if I leave it to dry naturally but if I straighten it, it’s much longer xx

MichelleMcD · 28/02/2018 20:31

I straightened my hair years ago just to see what it looked like. My hair also went thin after the pregnancies so straightening really looked rubbish on me. It made me love my wild hair even more! 😁 I've taken on board all the notes from your comments. I know my diet is good so it's either neglected hair or it's just stopped growing.
Such a nightmare.
Thanks everybody x
