Help.Awful hair cut.

Had my hair cut short at usual hairdresser and it’s too short.
I have a round face and my hair is quite thin anyway so looks like a boys haircut and not in a gamine way - more “short back and sides” from the 70’s 😱. I’ve thought of trying to curl it somehow to add some body to it. Any ideas anyone?

Is it really so bad? Maybe it’s just the shock of the new? I bet you can work it!
Good thickening products to boost the volume, fab earrings, you’ll be fine. It’ll grow. I speak as a veteran of a million startling haircuts. 😀

spankhurst · 25/02/2018 18:01

..also round faced and thin haired.

Slippery · 25/02/2018 18:36

Oh that's such a horrible thing OP. Happened to me once - I came away looking like Richard III from one haircut. Went to another hairdresser to sort it out and came out looking like Jamie Oliver!

Can you sort of bouff it up a bit and then maybe put clips in/band around it? Or wear a hat Grin

Slippery · 25/02/2018 18:36

Am also round-faced and thin-haired.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/02/2018 18:43

Ah it's awful when you hate your new haircut. I had mine cut short recently and find that I look better with makeup on and some product on my hair. I mess it up then tuck it behind my ears. Might be worth a try OP?

doctorboo · 25/02/2018 18:45

Sorry you've joined our tribe! The last time this happened me to me I mussed mine up with some texturising putty and tried and probably failed to own it until it grew a bit. It was one of the straws which prompted me to grow my pixie out: never achieving the same cut twice.

My hair has thinned out a lot in the last two years and it's put me off having another pixie as I fear too much scalp would show if my hairdresser sheared me.

Skinfulnappies46 · 25/02/2018 19:01

What about a bit of texturising paste to mess it up a bit in a cool way? Been there too often to mention with the haircut from hell. Take hear,it will grow fairly quickly. My best advice is not to stare at it too much in the mirror trying to work with it. Just spend a few minutes and then go. Otherwise you end up torturing yourself and tbh no one else will probably notice. Good luck xx

At least it's going to be woolly hat weather this week, OP.

I bet it's not as bad as you think.

FlibbertyGiblets · 25/02/2018 19:19

Hat all the way. Hairband, Jane Fonda workout style an option.

Partypopper123 · 25/02/2018 19:20

Could you post a pic with your face obscured so maybe we could help with some suggestions?
I totally get how upsetting this is, I posted last year when my normally sane hairdresser gave me an awful cut, the wise women of MN made some great suggestions which helped me get it sorted.

ReluctantlyRedundant101 · 25/02/2018 19:29

Definitely no curling! Confused it'll only add to the roundness
Definitely some sort of texturing paste/gum to break it up a bit

Theknitwitch · 25/02/2018 19:52

Thanks everyone. Will try some texturing products. Will also stop staring at it - you’re right - that’s not helping!
Worst thing is, it was the start of a ‘beauty overhaul’ and thought hair would be the best place to start 🙄. Will focus on makeup now.
Thanks everyone, feel better now.

This happened to me when I had a pixie. Wash it, dry it, use some kind of texturising product (I used to use a powder - I forget the name now).
And it will grow.

EnidButton · 26/02/2018 00:21

Think of it this way, if you take very good care of it whilst it grows out, the new hair will be in such good condition. It's like starting fresh.

To help it grow out a little quicker, biotin and omega 3 supplements are good. Eat plenty of protein and healthy fats. Give yourself a head massage every time you wash it.

It's shit when people say this but I will anyway...it will grow. And short hair grows out fast. In 6-8 weeks time it'll be long enough to go to someone else and have it cut into to reshape it. Maybe sooner.

I had a haircut I hated last year so know how terrible they can make you feel. You just have to grit your teeth and ignore it for a while. Holding a mirror up trying to see it from all angles won't change it, it'll just stress you out. Focus on keeping it nourished and as healthy as it can be. Plus it might not be as bad as you think. We're our own worst critics.

DottyDotts · 26/02/2018 01:02

Use straighteners to flick it out from the face . This will give width and volume and it won't look so short and flat.

JoyceDivision · 26/02/2018 22:12

Try V05instant oomph powder, about £4 in superdrug.. you only needa teensy tiny bit but musses up your hair so you can style, tweak and manouvre it so not flat

Aah, been there many times OP. I like my short hair, but I've had a lot of hairdressers not listen to me about exactly how short, and then had to wait a few weeks until it was what I actually wanted.

I usually find even if it's very short, 2 weeks makes a big difference. I would colour it if you can, just a home dye or henna, and just in your own colour if you prefer, as this will give it a volume boost. Then use a bit of volumising powder and some putty to style it. If it's long enough to get tongs in, you can give it a bit of curl to add body too.

I also wear make-up and more feminine/pink stuff as that sets it off well and makes you look more like a stylish woman and less like a boy. Avoid jackets and shirts with collars!

MistyMeena · 27/02/2018 21:10

Oh sympathies OP I have been there more than once! Luckily for you it's cold. Wear a hat for a few days 😀 Honestly when hair is very short a week or do does make a big difference, as someone upthread has already said.
