Tall and curvy/pear shaped? What's your style?

Looking for some inspiration really, I lost a lot of weight so most of my clothes have been ditched. Every time I go clothes shopping or look online, I find I hate all the clothes! But I don't really have a 'style' to work from.
Trying to move away from jeans, especially because skinny jeans don't necessarily suit my pear shaped lower half (I'm more hourglass as I've got reasonable boobs, but my saddlebags make me a pear apparently). Used to live in bootcut jeans but although I found some lovely ones in Tesco, they just don't look 'right' for some reason. But I'm a bit lost when it comes to trousers, especially as I need a long leg.

I'm fussy with tops, I know what I don't like and that's most of the high street offers!
Shoes hold back a lot of outfits, I've got big feet and hate shoe shopping, so apart from ankle boots and a pair of trainers, plus birkenstocks in summer, I'm rather short on shoes. I'm useless at knowing what shoes to wear with something and rarely wear heels due to height and the fact I like being able to walk!

I like stuff that shows my silhouette a bit, as I'm tall and have lost weight (>3 stone, now a 14) and look a reasonable shape compared to a year ago. I like dresses that come out under the bust (A line?). I like v necks not high necks.

I wear a uniform at work, but I also go to uni, where everyone seems to wear skinny jeans and converse/ballet flats/ankle boots. So outfits needed for uni and school run days, plus occasional something nice for conferences and meals out.

So, any suggestions welcome. If you're tall and curvy or just a clothing expert, please hit me with some style tips.

I’m no expert but I didn’t want to read and run. I have size 7 feet so no Cinderella!

Would dresses work for you? I see you’re at university, so maybe not the work shift dress style, but maybe more casual dresses? Are you looking for more high street shops (student discount) or other shops?

I work with someone quite tall and she tends to wear knee length sleeveless dresses and I think it suits her. You could always wear a jacket with it and I think that might avoid the issue of being peer shaped and not having the right length of jacket for a trouser suit.
But, I am no expert and maybe wiser people than I will be more helpful.

Thanks, yes dresses would be fine but then I have to find shoes. Unless ankle boots okay? I have a couple of dresses that o wear with leggings. I like dresses that have a bit of shape, but not too smart.
Definitely high Street or eBay budget wise!

Dresses definitely solve the putting a top with bottoms dilemma (I don't own skirts for this reason!).

Oh please, please tell me your weight loss motivation and tactics. Congratulations on your new enviable problem!

I went low carb/sugar free January 2016, apart from the odd day off and holiday and Christmas, I'm sugar free and low carb high far. Did all the Mumsnet low carb bootcamps last year, currently losing my Christmas gain and hopefully another stone ish

hi there I'm pear shaped - currently losing weight so still on the slightly over weight side. I tend towards simple a - line dresses with a cardigan and a leather jacket or skinny jeans in a dark colour and tops which end just at my hip bone so that they don't emphasize the largest part of my body.

I find boohoo great for really cheap dresses. I'm 5 '6 but always order from their tall range as the rest are just ridiculously short for daytime. I have some real bargains from there. Also just disovered YUMI and have some great dresses with unusual prints. I prefer skater shape dress but not to full in the skirt. very flattering

Stephisaur · 25/02/2018 18:56

I’m a size 14 in clothes, 5’10” tall with size 9 feet :)
I live in skater dresses. I just love them - hide your tummy but show your waist! I wear them with ballet flats or (more often) little Chelsea boots from new look. Skinny jeans are your friend if you wear them with a longer line top. A good swing top looks fab with jeans and (again) ankle boots :) hope this helps xx

Gammeldragz · 26/02/2018 06:07

Thanks Stephisaur We're the same height and shoe size! I love skater dresses, but never sure about the whole shoes and tights thing. I can't stand ballet flats, maybe I've just never found any that are comfortable but they seem so flat and flimsy!

Boohoo do some great midi dresses that I wear with a belt and ankle boots. Not the best quality, but if you're still losing weight, you won't need them forever. I'm 5'8" and a pear with ok bust. I also love a ruched jersey skirt with long top. Never been able to wear jersey skirts, but the ruching hides saddlebags nicely. Hush skirts are great, but pricey, try eBay.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/02/2018 07:08

Ankle boots or brogues would be great with casual dresses.

Stephisaur · 27/02/2018 16:26

Gammeldragz - nice to meet someone with big feet like me lol!

Yeah, ballet flats are pretty crap, I agree there. I wear ankle boots with my tights mainly. As long as they're closed toe, they're fair game!

Just ordered a new dress and pair of boots actually:

I am 5ft 10. I’m a size 12 but a definite pear shape - I have a bubble butt! The styles that work for me are a-line skirts with a fitted jumper and fit and flare dresses or skater dresses. All of these nip in at the waist and disguise bottom and thighs. The worst styles for me are empire line and even worse, shift dresses as they just make me look big all over. I actually find skirt and top easier as on me the waist of the dress is often too high due to longer torso (on the rib cage rather than natural waist). And I have size 8 feet. I avoid brogues - look like clown shoes - but do wear ballet pumps and all sorts of boots.

Rodgerrabbit29 · 27/02/2018 17:54

Get a pair of topshop Joni jeans they will be great for your shape. Dark denim so you can dress up or down. Your the same size and shape as me - I'm like 5,11 and they are flattering.

Gammeldragz · 04/01/2020 21:18

Searching mumsnet and found my own post! Had missed the last few posts. Off to find some joni jeans now...
Any more advice welcome!
