What size does 28 Waist correspond to?

Was looking to buy a pair of jeans. I'm normally a size 10. But on AndOtherStories they do the sizing by waist siZe. Would a 28 waist be a size 10?

It says the model in the picture is wearing 27, and I'm not that much bigger than her I think? We shall see.

Yes W28 = size 10. Your size may vary depending on the fit, for example skinny jeans tend to be more elasticated than mom style jeans so you may be a different size in each.

28 used to be 14 in the 70's I had them for riding in so a little more room. I was a 26-28 fluctuated and thought I was fat. My mum had an 18 " waist when she got married I realise now she must have been anorexic but we just thought we were fat! Dropped down to 10 or 12 in Chelsea Girl when I started working in a very physical job and mum was no longer feeding me.

Oh, the jeans look awful! They are a bit big, the shape is horrendous 😳 Definitely returning...what a shame

I have a 24 inch waist and am size 14 to 16 but I have wide hips and a weirdly small waist for my size.

I bought some Levis in Costco and had to guess the size as obvs couldn't try them on in store.

I am/was a good 14 (it's the hips!) but had lost a bit of weight so took a 30 inch waist. They fitted nicely so I returned to buy a second pair. Took a chance on a 29 and they are fine too.

There is lycra involved of course which helps - but I'd call these a 12/14. Definitely no smaller.

This is why standardised clothes sizes are really not helpful and vary so widely.... as there's no recognition that shape dictates what will / won't fit.

My waist is 28 and I wouldn't go near a 10 on the bottom as I carry a lot of my weight on my hips - a lot of pear/hourglass type figures would have a much smaller waist if they fit into a 10 bottom. Whereas a more column-shaped lady will have slimmer thighs and a waist that is much less narrow in comparison - size 10 may be perfect or a little big around the hip/thigh/bum with a 28 waist.

I think (as well as some size inflation), a lot of clothes now are designed more for column shapes, while hourglass was a more common clothes shape for design pre-90s/2000s. The more further back you go, the more things like corsets / more restrictive underwear comes into play, too (e.g 1950s/60s and before).

I don't think the current sizing system works that well generally, though: hourglass/pears will get a larger fit due to hips/bum but then have gaping waists, while its hard for columns to know if a brand will be too big around the hip/thigh/bum. You get to know the brands and styles that generally work better for your shape, I suppose.

I'm a size 6 - 8, and buy a size 24 jeans, but they vary so much from shop to shop. You'd think that since this is a waist size rather than6/8/10/12 etc, it would be consistent across stores. Even the same brand can vary, within the same range, so that Levis white 501's are looser than black 501's.

I'd say a generous 12. I wear a 27 in both Gap and Uniqlo and I'm not a 10 and most definitely don't have a 28 waist.
