One of my brothers got married last year, I bought this dress to wear but I couldn’t get it to work. There is a cut out detail and you can see my bra quite clearly, although hard to see in the picture.

My other brother is getting married this summer abroad and so this dress ticks a few boxes with it being so light weight. Any ideas what I could do about the cut out section? I tried putting on a white bandeau thing but it didn’t look good. Could a good seamstress do something with this? I really appreciate any help & advice. Thank you ☺️

I think it looks fine; but if you don't, have you tried a white top? I'd usually have gone for a white lace bralette or one of those modesty vests.

A seamstress would be able to attach something if you preferred.

It definitely looks worse IRL than in the picture. I just wish the dress had been designed without that cutout bit.

A seamstress could probably sew in bra cups which would negate the need for a bra all together. Would that help?

Sunshineatbeach · 25/02/2018 07:32

Lovely dress and I think a good seamstress should be able to match the type of fabric and place a white panel in the gap.
Good luck, hope you find someone to do it for you.

Could you get a seamstress to replace the straps with red ribbons/plain red fabric, then use the fabric from the straps to infill the cut out?

Dairyleigh · 25/02/2018 09:21

Good idea. I know the dress has a floral print but it’s not too white, is it?

Dairyleigh - pretty dress, I really like it.

Is the problem with the cut out at the front and seeing the bra going across the cut-out? if so, I am sure I have seen somewhere that you can buy bra cups. So an individual cup that you would use in each side and not a bra. I really don't know if I have explained that very well at all. I will try and see if I can find them.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 25/02/2018 09:41

OP, I think they are called "stick on bras". I can't link sorry I am useless but I did a quick google and Debenhams and M& S have some.

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/02/2018 10:18

I'd remove that bit of a bow and use the fabric to fill in the cut out.

katieferg81 · 25/02/2018 22:44

Would a bra like this help? I had a similar issue with a low cowl neck dress once and bought a bra that had a clear strap in the middle

igotdaboobies · 25/02/2018 22:49

Can you get away with no bra?
Otherwise just duct tape them up. Google it- if it's good enough for Kim Kardashian!

igotdaboobies · 25/02/2018 22:49

By the way, it looks lovely on you!! 👍👍

Knittedfairies · 25/02/2018 22:55

Take the dress to a good lingerie shop and ask their advice. It's a lovely dress and it would be a shame to patch it!

Mulberrysilk · 25/02/2018 22:58

I think you'll spend so much time and money trying to alter it that you'd be better off wearing the dress another time and finding something else for the wedding.

Dairyleigh · 26/02/2018 10:57

Mulberrysilk that was my worry. Lots of great ideas above that I’ll look into though. Thanks everyone Smile
