Retin A for eyes?

RosieLig · 22/02/2018 20:47

Around my eyes is the area showing the most age in my face. A bit crepey and wrinkly. I am mid 40s.

I use Retin A 0.5% every other night on the rest of my face-can I use it around my eyes? It says not but as long as I’m careful I’m thinking it might be ok?

What do other people do? I need some serious help!! ShockGrin

I wouldnt , it might dry the skin up and make them wrinkly, as it tends to dry before before it shows a result after using it for a while
I use it but dont put it near my eyes

Ididnthearanything · 16/03/2018 12:23

No, I wouldn't use around eyes. What about a weaker retinol like La Roche Posya Redermic for eyes as a start off?

Mercurial123 · 16/03/2018 15:39

I use a tiny bit under my eyes and near eye sockets to lift them, I think it was Hot and Flashy who does this and her crows feet have definitely reduced. I just do if after I've applied the cream everywhere else and the use what's remaining on my finger tips, I've never had a problem.

This might help

I use a teeny bit, as in teeny weeny amount. I only use a pea sized amount over my whole face so just sweep under my eyes with the last smudge.

Delatron · 16/03/2018 16:18

Yes Hot and Flashy got good results doing it. Also that other woman on YouTube who is 62 but looks 40. Melissa55.

I pat my retinol 0.5% around the crows feet and around eye brows with no problem.

There are specific eye creams which have retinol in the such as the new one from Olay too.

Boots sell one called Reface by indeed i have used it and it does make your skin look nice and seems to tighten it
I have used that around my eyes with no ill effects

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2018 17:57

I always use it. I use the ordinary retinol in squalene. My skin is used to retinol now. What you can do [ and what I did at the beginning] is to put a small amount over your eyes. Leave to sink in for 30 minutes then apply a moisturiser to buffer the effects of the retinol. Its fine. Once you have been doing this for a while, you could try putting it on without.

mintbiscuit · 16/03/2018 18:01

I use around eye no probs. Not on eyelids though!

Whoever said it might make them wrinkly is talking rubbish. A good hydrating serum and a moisturiser will ensure the skin remains hydrated this avoiding dehydration lines.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2018 18:09

I use it everywhere and have no issues. My eyelids look better. I always tend to put a moisturiser over the top.

Ididnthearanything · 16/03/2018 18:29

There’s a huge difference between Retin A and a retinol, comparing strength. Retinol is a good start to get your ‘eye skin’. I know Hot and Flashy uses RetinA but does she apply it directly around her eyes?

lovemylover · 16/03/2018 20:02

It was me who said wrinkly, probably the wrong word, sorry, i meant really it can cause peeling after a time, hence looking very dry

squoosh · 17/03/2018 11:33

I use retin a two or three nights a week and apply it everywhere aside from eyelids and lips.

MagnetarMum · 29/03/2018 16:31

I've used Retin A for some time too and avoid the eye area as it was making my skin there look wrinkly. That might have been something that would have settled in time, but I didn't want to risk it. Retin A cream has a 'creep' factor to it, which means that it will creep up to and around the areas that you don't physically add it too, anyway IYSWIM. If you are unsure, you could always moisturise the eye area first and then just use the last tiny bit of Retin A on your hands to go over that area last.

Mulberrysilk · 29/03/2018 18:46

I've been using it around my eyes for about 6 months with no problems.
