Hair dye disaster, please send help :(

So I dyed my hair with a Directions dye in rose red yesterday morning. I washed my hair, donned gloves, and slapped it on. While it was developing I did my body - around 10 minutes (I dragged it out, the dye is supposed to be on for 15 minutes!)
Washed it off and pink went EVERYWHERE. I’m talking pink tiles, pink grout, pink face, neck, ears, body, hands, FEET, I’m covered. I’ve rinsed abd rinsed yet it’s still leaving a pink mark on anything that touches it. I can’t get it off my fingers, or off my neck and cheeks. I’ve tried everything I can think of - hairspray, lemon, milk, peroxide, hand sanitiser, even household bleach. Nothing is shifting it. I don’t know what to do, I had to go to work today and I’ve been dying of embarrassment all day Blush. Please someone please help me, tell me what to do!!

Did your hair come out OK?
I would have a good soak, then a good exfoliate. It will come out eventually.
Washing up liquid and sugar can be good.

Either fairy liquid or head and shoulders.

Good luck!

I have done this with directions so mamy times! The worst was when I looked like a Smurf.

The only thing I found that worked was bleach. Dilute it first before putting it on your skin.

Not recommending anyone bathes in bleach, just stating that it is what worked for me.

Yes thanks Daphne - my hair looks fabulous! But I do not! I’ll try exfoliating some more - I’m scared that a bath will just end up with me sitting in pink water, eventually looking badly sunburnt/neon.
I’ve bought some marigolds so o can give my head a good scrub tonight without getting my hands in a worse state than they already are.

Head and Shoulders is a good shout too, thank you.

My DP is torn between howling with laughter at me, and exploding at the state of the bathroom. I’ve put bleach everywhere but it’s still very pink!

Dextro, I tried bleach - it just made my eczema prone skin very angry.

On the bright side (haha), it’s dyed my eczema patches extra bright so I’ve got different hues of pink on me!!

Ah, Directions, that takes me back - you have my sympathy! 😁 Repeated washing with soap/shampoo was the only answer AFAIK. Over and over till you can't remember anything apart from trying to wash pink dye out... sorry.

Writersblock2 · 20/02/2018 19:30

Unfortunately this is what Directions does. Always dye your hair fully clothed and put Vaseline around your hairline and ears. It’s amazing dye though.

I find toothpaste and a nail brush particularly good, but be careful with your face.

Katescurios · 20/02/2018 19:36

Directions, manic panic, any of the temp crazy colours are basically just dye pigment in conditioner. They stain everything!

If there is a next time don't try to combine doing your hair with a full shower, you need to look at it as a simple targeted activity. Cover your ears, neck and forehead with vaseline use old towels, be really careful to keep all the water in a small controlled stream and scrub any marks immediately.

Exfoliating and time is your only real choice with the dye in your skin. You will probably not get the dye off your tbath sealant but that's easy enough to replace. Scrub grout with a paste made with bicarb and water then get one of those whitening pens to cover any lasting tint.

I love the colours but the colour run and staining is a bastard! Last time I used it I ended up with a purple neck every time it rained or was hot enough to sweat

Littlemissamy · 20/02/2018 19:49

This is what I don’t understand - I used SO much Vaseline because I’m a bugger for getting it on my skin (long hair), so covered my face, neck, shoulders, and hands. Then put gloves on! It’s a nightmare, next time I’m getting someone to do it for me! My hair is a gorgeous colour but the rest of me isn’t looking too healthy. I look like I’ve drank something VERY radioactive Grin

I need a photo of the colour now Grin

Littlemissamy · 20/02/2018 19:59

I’ll add one when I’ve cleaned myself up - I’m afraid it’ll just blend into my skin at the minute. Think of a highlighter - that’s me Grin

It’s actually gone a lovely purple-pink colour, my hair was brown to start with. I love it, it’s a glowy dark pink in the sun!

Oh if you do it again (you will need to it fades fast) wash it off in the kitchen if you have a mixer tap. I have long hair and it can be a faff but it doesnt stain the metal sink the same way it does the bathroom.
