Hi, I keep hearing about The Ordinary skincare range. Is it any good? What are your favs?

I’m 46, classic combination (drier on forehead & cheeks in winter). I’ve been thinking about the Remedies from Bobbi Brown are TO products similar? Guess I’m looking for something to even out skin tone, brighten, perform all round miracle for ageing skin! Smile

I’ve seen a few threads on here on The Ordinary. Quite a few people rave about Buffet and the retinoid product (sorry, I’m not sure what the actual name is). Others seems to like the squalane, lactic acid and the niacinamide.
If you email them, they can send you a suggested regimen.

Victoria Health will email you a regime. And you will be advised to buy about 12 products. Make of that what you will.

I did it last year when they first hit these threads.

I did as I was told and followed the regime (Vit C, Retinoid 2%, Buffet, Hyaluronic in my case) and didn't see any discernible difference. The texture of the Vit C is gritty, the Buffet and Hyaluronic are slimey.

I prefer RetinA cream, and other serums. But each to their own. I remain a bit Hmm about The Ordinary's marketing personally. Yes, their ethos is that they are loads cheaper, lots of high potency ingredients, and yes, people tend to notice a massive difference very quickly. My question would be what those people were doing to their skin prior to buying the 59 products from VH. If nothing, then d'oh, of course they're going to notice a difference.

The best thing I started using regularly for ageing skin (am 52 now) was an acid toner. Nip and Fab pads are good, and quick, and invariably on some sort of offer at Superdrug.

Best (neutral) skincare advice you'll get is by popping onto the long running skincare threads and asking someone like Botemp. She might recommend 42 products from The Ordinary, but she probably won't.

PS I do like the Hyalamide subq eye stuff (sister company, same umbrella) and the NIOD opaque primer (ditto) very much. I'm not a total Ordinary hmmmer. Grin

Niacinimide, caffeine eye, 2%retinoid. Also Niod copper

I don’t think you can go wrong at the price to try a few items and see how you go

I recently started using two products; the 2% Retinoid in squalane and the Alpha Arbutin + HA.

The Retinoid is quite oily, but that's OK because I use it at night (currently every other night). I'm using it primarily because just about every skincare expert in the world says that the one thing that makes a difference to mature skin ins retinol/retinoid. I'm not sure what difference it is making at this stage, although my skin texture does seem to be a little better, and the fine lines around my eyes are less obvious (could be wishful thinking).

The Alpha Arbutin + HA is to get rid of uneven pigmentation/sunspots, but I haven't noticed a difference yet. The serum soaks in within seconds, and contains hyaluronic acid, which means I shall probably continue to the end of the bottle, then reassess.

Niacinamide - improves my texture and reduces oiliness
Hyaluronic acid and B5. - tightens, hydrates, fills in fine lines
2% granacitve retinoid emulsion - every other night - skin smoother and brighter
Alpha lipoid acid every other night - helping with old acne scarring
Caffeine eye serum - tightens

I was my no means a skin novice before and since using TO for last 3 months, my skin has improved incredibly.

I love the alpha hydroxy 30% peel, the caffeine for my eyes & the Reservatrol daily antioxidant.

Less impressed with the alpha lipoic acid, doesn't seem to do much for me so I might try the azaelic acid next time.

My skin does not like nicanamide on my cheeks so I use it on my nose for controlling oil.

I use a tiny dab of hylauronic acid as eye cream in the day.
