style disaster seeks help for child

how do you teach your child to look good when you have no sense of style yourself? She might pick up a bit from her friends but are there magazines that would help? Not in London so if there are people that do such things they probably aren't reachable.

scatter catalogues around the house, esp French ones (I developed my adolescent style almost entirely from La Redoute), but also Boden, Fat Face, White Stuff, Joe Browns etc
Get the Next directory too.

Much better than magazines IMO as no awkward words to get in the way of the pictures and might help you at the same time too

MrsBadger · 02/05/2007 20:09

(NB no need to actually buy much stuff from these catalogues, just look at what they wear with what etc)

newgirl · 02/05/2007 21:06

hennes is good too for all ages although stear clear of anything with writing or glitter!!

id help her to choose similar things to her friends so check out what they wear and ask the mums - i do that all the time. then get similar things from similar shops though prob not exactly the same. i think most girls want to be the same as their mates.

I do ask the other teens (early teen) about clothes but she's a different shape. Most of her friends are tall and thin and have already hit puberty. She's a late developer who has yet to get the puberty growth spurt. She's not fat but she's never going to be fashionably skinny, and she loves writing and glitter! We're starting to buy petite woman's clothes rather than adolescent ones so I may get her away from the writing/glitter.

Maybe there's hope for me - never had a beige fleece although I do possess a black one. It's now only used to pick up the rabbits

this is it - they like writing and glitter etc but im not sure it 'looks stylish' this is why they need a bit of guidance indeed.

new look had lovely clothes today for teens and sizes from 8-20 so there should be things to try on.

Doesn't Miss Selfridge have Tammygirl in it?

Nbg · 03/05/2007 12:51

It was Etam that sold Tammygirl

gegs73 · 03/05/2007 13:15

New Look has some good clothes for girls according to my niece who is pretty cool.

tatt · 03/05/2007 17:37

new look trousers don't fit unfortunately. Some of her friends shop there. Will look at miss selfridge online

hey? how can all new look trousers not fit? in what way? they do so many styles - some very classic, some funky?

tatt · 03/05/2007 19:10

in our local small shop there is a limited teen range. Some she would not consider, the ones she's prepared to try don't fit.

oh i see. thats a pain. what are the good shops near you? you could go very glam and have a special shopping day out at large centre twice a year?! very ladies who lunch!

tatt · 04/05/2007 09:09

don't think we have good shops here - going to have to have a day, or even weekend, out somewhere.

MascaraOHara · 04/05/2007 09:12

take her shopping for a day in your nearest big town and tell her how much she can spend.. get lunch somewhere nice while you're there and maybe book in for a treatment at a make up counter if she's old enough...

places like debenhams have free personal shoppers that you can book in advance..

tatt · 04/05/2007 10:44

according to this lifestyle.uk.msn.com/fashion/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4846633
I should get the beige fleece!

Get her a great haircut from Toni & Guy or similar then let her choose her own stuff and make her own mistakes with her clothes!

If she is young with great hair she will look fabulous whatever she wears, and if she has chosen it she will like it!
