Every year I try different foundations and whilst they can seem great at first within a few weeks it's not so good. I've got spot prone skin but it can also look quite dull... especially as I've hit mid 30s. I like mac but it makes me get even worse spots for some reason, bare minerals can look ok but my skin looks dull and it seems to settle in creases? Tried True match but I look shiny by dinner time. Tried so many others over the year I've lost track. Is there a foundation which will make my skin look better, not cause spots but also let me skin look healthy/ glowing and not bleurgh???
Happy to try high street or more expensive....

I have spot prone skin too and I'm also always on the look out for the perfect foundation. The one I'm using now which I really like is this one - www.boots.com/no7-beautifully-matte-light-foundation-10211484. It hasn't caused any more spots and I really like the texture.

Estée Lauder double wear is amazing

If you have spot prone skin make sure you’re using the right cleanser. I use a glycolic cleanser and it has totally changed my skin. I’d recommend a consultation with a good salon, one that offers a wide range of treatments and uses the visia system not just facials etc. They can tell you the right combination of products for your skin and although the products cost more it’s vastly cheaper than my trial and error of believing all the promises of retinol, AHAs, salicylic acids, antioxidant products etc etc

Back to the foundation, I like Lancôme Teinte miracle and I mix it with a bit of Terry Densiliss depending on what colour I want.

I have 4 favourite foundations:
Mac studio fix
The Ordinary coverage foundation (really good and cheap as well!)
Make Up Forever ultra hd
Revlon colorstay foundation for days where i dont want as full coverage

Milk Matte Foundation has changed my life. It isn't matte but glowy and lovely. It is very thin but full coverage and has a lovely citrus scent. It stays on all day, covers everything and has a beautiful finish You can get it online.

I also bought the new Nars one. It's full coverage longwear. Worried it for the first time yesterday: lovely light texture, covers everything you want but still looks natural and stayed on all day.

*Wore it for the first time!

I echo Stripy29: Make up Forever HD stick. It is the only foundation that is actually skin coloured. I swipe it on and you can't see it on your skin. It's super quick and good for running out to do the school run. But it is very moisturising and doesn't last all day on my oily skin.

Stripy29 · 17/02/2018 09:28

Forgot about the nars one, agree that ones really good too.
Iv never tried the Make Up Forever stick, just the liquid, but liked it on my skin and it was easy to colourmatch online as its not stocked anywhere in stores i dont think.

Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder, or The Ordinary if you’re on a tight budget. I have dry sensitive skin so am careful what I put on my face. A good skincare routine underneath does more than half the job for you as well, I’d also suggest a primer.

Elledorado · 17/02/2018 12:33

Mac foundation is the worst stuff for acne prone skin. I like revlon colorstay (with a good primer under).

Thank you for all the replies! Will try and get a couple of testers maybe and am tempted by the HD or the Lancôme.
My skin seems to be getting worse rather than better as I get older and it's more sensitive aswell Confused. I've found LRP seems to help a bit but it's still very spot prone and I've got white bumps that look like spots but won't go away? Is so annoying! Any recommendations for moisturisers? The ones I find which don't make my skin even spottier seem to make my skin tight/ seem dehydrated? If that makes sense?
Oh and re primers... I've tried a rimmel one benefit but didn't like either??
