Talk me down from the £63 foundation cliff - or slap me on the back and say well done

So, my skin is menopausal and crap, it hates me. It’s red, blotchy, hot, has pustules and yet a visit to space NK results in a little pot of foundation magic that blurs me to perfection and doesn’t itch but it’s £63.

I’ve probably spent 5 x that since reaching menopause searching for a foundation that doesn’t age me or look hideous and settle in every line and pore.

So, would you do it? Am I mad? I’m certainly desperate.

I got alabaster. I’m pale, pink/neutral undertone, dark hair and eyes.

So glad to get some hurrahs! I thought I’d gone mad. I never spend much on make up.

I'm only 28 but suffer from rosacea so everything you described is how my skin always looks anyway. Absolute self esteem destroyer. So I'd say for sure buy it !! Can I also ask what the foundation is called I'd be interested in getting a sample

Newseeker · 15/02/2018 22:31

Blessings - the greasy thing is my panic state. Yet, I’m now so dry that I need something softer but not greasy,

Swan, it’s Chantecaille Future Skin.

But it!!!

QuentinSummers · 15/02/2018 22:37

I have just skin which is a tinted moisturiser. In glow which is perfect for me. They don't do the same shade in future skin.
Go get a tester from Space NK!

SpornStar · 15/02/2018 22:38

PM incoming, Newseeker

Blessingsatbedtime · 15/02/2018 22:38

Was reading the other day about applying powder before foundation, apparently Marilyn Monroe applied layers of Vaseline, powder, Vaseline, powder and built it up. Don't think I'd be brave enough to try that.
Who knows?
Trouble is at our age something will look great one week and completely crap the next.

bakingbee · 15/02/2018 22:38

I've been using Chantecaille foundation for years but have for past 6 months been using the ordinary foundation and can buy a load of other stuff for the price of Chantecaille foundation. Not sure if it'll be a permanent switch but for now I'm happy with the ordinary

GottadoitGottadoit · 15/02/2018 23:37

Buy it.

I use by Terry Densiniliss (spelt wrong) and it costs a million pounds but is incredible!!!

Newseeker · 15/02/2018 23:45

Feeling empowered! Thanks! 🙂

I use Chantecaiile Future Skin too! Every so often* when my skin is behaving I don't need to use it, but it's the only proper foundation that doesn't highlight the angry rough bits when my skin is acting up. The Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser works for me too -- that doesn't quite cover like foundation and I only use it in the summer.

*getting less and less frequent with age, sigh

HeartOfSass · 16/02/2018 01:15

I buy expensive foundation but cheapskate on mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, lipliner and eyebrow pencil. I reckon it works out.

Buy the foundation if you love it! Better than buying a cheaper one that doesn't make you feel as marvellous, you'll still be on the holy grail foundation trail and probably buy another brand too before long, so you might as well get the magic one now.

(what did you say it was called? Smile)

HeartOfSass · 16/02/2018 01:21

Blessings - I bet a technique of vaseline and powder layers work fab for photos and on film, but in the bright morning sunshine it would not look good. Vaseline on the face aint' nobody's friend unless you are 18 and don't actually even need it!

SD1978 · 16/02/2018 02:42

@SponStar- I found the Chanel CC cream quite splotchy on me- everyone is so different!

OldJoseph · 16/02/2018 07:52

Newseeker
I scrimp and save a lot of the time and then I fill up the car with fuel and £50 goes just like that.
If you can afford the foundation and it does the trick then buy it, it'll last longer than a tank of fuel.

Bettybettybettybetty · 16/02/2018 08:07

I like Becca, you can get it in space nk. I use the porcelain colour. It’s worth a look.
But just buy the expensive one if you can afford it!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/02/2018 09:36

I'm in Team Get It! Out of interest, how long does this wondrous product last you, before you need to sell your remaining kidney? Grin Joking aside, I go on this board, and end up buying stuff. Yesterday it was the Jo Malone offer...

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 16/02/2018 09:39

You'd easily pay that for a blouse or a sweater, why skimp on something you wear every day?

Newseeker · 16/02/2018 14:54

Oh, how cruel is February daylight? It’s settled in my pores and lines. 🙁That’s why we like samples! My primers, brushes, sponges and fingers are not a match for the Chantecaille MUA. Oh well. Glad I tried it.

Sorry @spornstar

There was a jo Malone offer? 😫

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/02/2018 19:38

Sorry Betty, but yes...

shakesbeer · 20/02/2018 21:10

I struggle to find a foundation that doesn't settle into my pores mine are awful (thanks genetics). Considering trying the fraxel laser to help

LucheroTena · 20/02/2018 21:14

By Terry was really good, and had a brush built in.
