Electric toothbrush recommendations

Just had a pretty bad visit to the dentist and basically, I need to get a grip on my oral hygiene. I have gum disease. I brush twice a day, at least, but I’ve not been flossing (I struggle to get in at them, but she said I need the interdental brushes anyway) and I eat way too much sugar, fizzy drinks etc.

Please recommend me a decent electric toothbrush, but nothing too expensive. Already got a £200 bill to pay. Feeling pretty ashamed here

What price range is not too expensive?

teethtrauma · 15/02/2018 17:48

Suppose that would help!

Absolute limit is about £50.

Thanks Dipping. I would. I’ll do some research. I see the oral B ones all get good ratings on Boots. I stupidly put pretty much every spare penny into my savings this month and I can’t get any money out if it til Tuesday, so couldn’t even pay the deposit to confirm my appointment, let alone by a brush today. I hate myself right now!

Wowcher constantly have deals on them and they’re always decent brushes! Hope your teeth stop giving you hassle soon

Oral B electric ones are good and were recommended by my dentist. You can usually find one on offer if you do a bit of research.

As for flossing, my teeth are also ‘tight’ together and I struggle to use normal floss never mind interdental brushes. You can buy tape floss that is thinner and works well for me.

I’ve had both oral b and Philips sonicare - prefer the oral b, got the 2500 for £35 on Amazon it’s brilliant

TroysMammy · 15/02/2018 19:07

My dentist recommended I use an electric toothbrush. She happily told me "you can get an Oral B one in Home Bargains for around £20."

molemonkey · 15/02/2018 19:07

Oral b have some half price £25 instead of £50 and all toothbrush heads are 1/3 off bought some yesterday £8:99 for 4!
We have the one I mention on offer and it's great

molemonkey · 15/02/2018 19:08

Missed out I got it from Superdrug

Olivo · 15/02/2018 19:11

I was recommended Philips sonic are, now we all use them. They are often 9n offer in days of the day on amazon. My dentist recommended getting the smallest brush heads - they are also often on deals.

I had some problems with non-replaceable battery going dead in expensive electric toothbrushes so I bought one you put batteries in. I use rechargeable batteries and it has lasted years, much longer than the one I paid £££ for, and I don't have to worry about having the base with me when I travel. (The battery cap seems to be a weak point but a little glycerine lubricant protects it.) www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002WH6W5G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

Philips sonicare is good, prefer that to the oral b. Think i only paid around 30 in sale so best to shop around.
