Effortlessly eccentric dressing at 50 plus. How to look quirky not completely daft?

I saw a woman when I was on hols, harem pants, flowy fabrics, grey hair, clearly didn’t give a damn. Looked gorgeous. Must’ve been at least 60 or over. I often see older women looking fabulous but not classic. But sometimes I see older women just look like they got dressed blindfold in the dark and didn’t brush their hair.
How can I achieve this? I like hippy stuff, Dr martens, pretty colours. But I just feel stupid when I try and end up in jeans and a t shirt.
Help me. Where to shop? What to get? What’s the key? I suspect good skin and hair helps? I don’t want to look classy I want to look odd but lovely!!

Only DM's I have had trouble wearing in are the belted Chelsea boots. Even after wearing with thick hiking socks for two tears still no give and are stiff

Mine are Mary Janes with two straps. Cute but hopefully not too twee.

I had these, which took a good 6 months to break in.

Unfortunately, after 18 months the right shoe split on both sides where the foot flexes (not sure of correct terminology!), so I would be reluctant to recommend.

Have replaced them with these, which have been so much easier to break in (1 month max):

Looks wise, I would have preferred the Adrian Smooth or the Adrian Arcadia, but these were so much more comfortable when I tried them on. They still look great though.

I like a bit of retro but have fallen out of love with the Lindy Bop type gear.
Waists are too high and those styles manage to make me, at 5.7 and 10st, look like Hattie Jacques
I love Hattie Jacques but the matronly look is not one I aspire to.

Can I just mention DMs - I bought a pair called For Life which they will replace for free if I ever wear them out. The leather had a more matt finish than the regular range and was definitely softer ( they are made in the UK while the others aren’t I believe). I’ve never had a blister from wearing them. I enjoy wearing them with long, long pleated skirts and my Jaeger jersey dresses.

I love Fly London, especially the wedges.

A heads up that Forgotten Tribes have 20% off until midnight Monday (UK). Code is taken off at checkout, it's MUM20.

I've been checking back since a link was posted here and I might well actually order something!

Dang ... I have seen the future and can now die happy - but cannot copy and paste. A.W.A.K.E. - Fall 2018 Ready-to-Wear. Google. Look.

Just outstanding.

Deffo feeling the love on here! You are my people! I have a Gudren dress that I love to death, plus some of her leggings and I really love Cos and Kin. I would never want to look French and am certainly not beige. I do sometimes wear pearl earring but that is as far as I go.
