Dewy make up for over 40

For a long time I've been using full coverage foundation as I thought anything too shiny would emphasise any lines or wrinkles.
My usuals are Mac studio sculpt, Nars and Chanel, but I'm now thinking my makeup looks too "Flat"
I'm looking for something dewy but with a bit of coverage.
Any recommendations would be gladly welcomed.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser.

Elgin78 · 15/02/2018 10:59

I'd second chantecaille. Not cheap but definitely gives that Dewey look with a decent amount of coverage for a tinted moisturiser...

I have just swapped from my much loved Chanel Velvet foundation to Laura Mercier's Candleglow, and I'm very pleased. It's super flattering and does give you a dewy, soft focus finish.

I don't think foundation is aging, so long as you apply it carefully. I always use a good primer, I'm loving Smashbox at the moment, then I just blend the foundation over my T zone, and dot a little on my chin. I never apply it all over, like a mask.

I used the Bobbi Brown BB cream for ages, loved it. Used the whole tube up which is unusual for me! Only haven't repurchased because it's not cruelty free.

I use Dior Star. Not heavy but not super light either.

EfficiencyDeficiency · 15/02/2018 15:57

Buster that's what I have and it looks awful on me.

Or maybe it's me that looks awful Grin

I can never get foundation right....

Just do eye make up now, and bare skin

Stick some Estée Lauder brightening primer under your foundation.
It leaves a lovely glow.

Aridane · 15/02/2018 16:15

Yes - that Estee Lauder stuff is bloody brilliant. Shame though it £40+++

Kaz2200 · 15/02/2018 16:48

I have recently started using The Ordinary serum foundation and I love it, one drop covers my whole face then I use Laura Geller Balance and Glow powder buffed over gives coverage and a slight glow perfect on my not too bad 53 year old skin.

BusterGonad · 15/02/2018 16:51

Oh Efficiency what a shame, I love mine!

LizzieSiddal · 15/02/2018 19:52

I too use the Bobbi Brown foundation and I find it fab. What’s also fan is that the woman at B.B. showed me how to put it in properly. I’m 52 and only just learnt that less is more with foundation. I just dot small amounts on the T zone then the checks, then blend. Non on the neck at all.

I then use their bronzing powder which others have posted about. That is amazing and gives the face and neck, colour. Their blushers are also great by the way.

I went to B.B. as my DD was getting married and I wanted my makeup to be fab on the day. I was really pleased with it.

Lancôme teint miracle Bare skin perfector foundation applied with a real techniques setting brush is your friend . It takes ten years off me in one fell swoop .

Lotsofsausage · 17/02/2018 19:45

I’ve ditched my expensive foundations and highlighters for garnier bb cream. Around a tennner. Glowy, good coverage and great for my skin. X

Diamonddealeroncemore · 17/02/2018 19:52

I recommend Heliocare. I’m 57 and I find that a light covering just evens out my skin and makes me look better and like I’m not wearing anything. An extra covering looks more ‘made up’ but it doesn’t sit in any lines. It’s brilliant and best of all its spf 50.

Sammysquiz · 17/02/2018 19:56

I really like Bobbi Brown stick foundation which I apply using their Full Coverage brush (which is also v good!). It makes me look like I have great skin, rather than I have a great foundation Grin

Armani Luminous Silk is great but it’s £££.

I’ve heard good things about Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation too.

With Dior Star - I don’t own it but I’m sure I’ve read that it works MUCH better when applied with a [insert thing I can’t quite remember ... possibly a BeautyBlender or a specific sort of brush?]. Might be worth Googling, for the poster who’s already shelled out and isn’t liking it.
