I want great hair

Help me please. I've decided that I need to have good hair.

I've never really bothered before but I need to take better care of myself and take a little bit more pride in my appearance. Up until now I've washed and left it to it's own devices.

I do have it cut and coloured about every 10 weeks but I never use any products.

I have good hair in that it's thick and shiny but can easily get very heavy - wavy rather than curly.

On the downside, it gets very fluffy on the top of my head so I always look a bit fuzzy and unkempt.

I'm convinced there must be a product that I can use that can instantly transform me into a show pony. However I got so confused by the products aisle I left in a panic.

Please tell me what it is.

I shall remain fuzzy

I’ll join you in your quest, I was googling today how to avoid the frizz halo and found that:

-A little bit of hairspray on a toothbrush to help fly aways
-not wrapping hair in a towel after washing to avoid breakage
-only brushing with a wide tooth comb when wet

MrsGrindah · 14/02/2018 19:36

Can I join? My hair is absolutely shit...had it cut a week ago and same shit only shorter! Fine dull dry frizzy flyaway and wavy! A “ friend” actually asked me if I ever used conditioner.....

Hownow39 · 14/02/2018 19:38

Moroccan oil.

MrsGrindah · 14/02/2018 19:39

I find Moroccan oil too heavy and stinky though ....

Hownow39 · 14/02/2018 19:40

Also maybe try a roller brush thing

It's less damage than straightening and it gives me a blow dry effect.

Use
Morrocan oil after washing when damp and brush through with a wide comb.

I don't use the air brush from wet I would say from dampish hair.

Use straighteners.

If there's an aveda counter near you pay them a visit. Their hair stuff is fabulous and they should be able to advise.

Kbear · 14/02/2018 19:59

Get a Tresemme air styler - it is an air brush but doesn't rotate but smooths and adds shine and bounce.

ContraryToPopularBelief · 14/02/2018 20:56

Get a Keratin Blow Dry!!! Expensive (and takes 3 hours to do) but so so worth it. I wash it twice a week, blast it dry and it's straight, shiny and not frizzy. Bliss.

PNGirl · 14/02/2018 21:19

Sodium Laureth Sulphate is terrible for wavy or curly hair. If you cut out silicones in conditioner you don't need sulfates to wash them out. So, I would try a sulfate-free shampoo and silicone-free conditioner together.

NewMummy579 · 14/02/2018 21:27

I invest time in my hair once or twice a week then it takes care of itself the rest of the time! Wash/good conditioner mask then blow dry and straighten - takes a good hour from washing to finish. Then in the morning, and following morning, it's needs a quick 2 mins with the straighteners and a scoosh of dry shampoo, if needed. If I curl it with straighteners in the morning (pretty quick to do once you get the hang of it) the next day it still has a wavy kink that's nice in a pony tail. I couldn't be bothered washing/styling and using products every day. But it's pretty thick so get away with not washing everyday!

catweasel44 · 15/02/2018 18:32

Ooh this is excellent. Thank you all.

I have straighteners but I don't use them as I panic about the house burning down and also they make my hair a bit flat. I have used them to straighten the edge of a pillow case though.

I've bought some hair oil. I think I need to experiment with the doses.

Get some Revlon Uniq One. It’s transformed DD’s knotty, crazy hair and smells amazing. I have the red one.

LikeSilver · 15/02/2018 18:35

Have you tried Living Proof’s Healthy Hair? Not cheap but I only need a tiny bit and it’s great for my thick wavy hair.

ProjectGainsborough · 15/02/2018 19:57

My holy grail is Kerestase masque - masque intense? The orange one. Makes a massive difference to frizz!

sportyfool · 15/02/2018 20:07

Regards to worrying about the straighteners . When you have finished and turned them off take a pic on your phone of them being off. Then you can refer to it when you have a panic ...

Can you post a pic of your hair so we can see what might work?

goose1964 · 15/02/2018 20:42

I use urtekram organic rose shampoo and my hair has gone from crystal tipps www.google.co.uk/search?q=crystal+tips&client=tablet-android-lenovo&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi1ibbw46jZAhUEY1AKHVQ3D0IQ_AUIESgB&biw=962&bih=601#

To long corkscrew curls. It's amazing and a reasonable price

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 15/02/2018 22:27

There is a forum/site called "longhaircommunity" and it is a bit weird but they do have very good hair advice on there.
