I've got ancient ghd's that need binning so wondering whether to get new ghd's or another brand!

new ghds only go up to 185 centigrade. Do work but need patience, thin sections and slow use.

less likely to damage hair, apparently.

digestivate · 13/02/2018 15:13

I just got a L'Oréal steam pod and it is amazing! Much better than my old GHDs and much better for your hair. Would highly recommend!

oohloolala · 13/02/2018 15:23

Oh that's good to know! I was just going to ask if there is an option to not damage hair but also not spend hours straightening it!

It is very quick to use - my hair is very thick and wavy, I can straighten it all in 10-15 mins, with ghds it would take half an hour. I can't recommend it enough for thick hair!!

JanetStWalker · 13/02/2018 16:58

Came here to recommend the Steam Pod too! It's miraculous, leaves hair feeling like healthy hair and not slightly singed straw.

twoplytwoply · 13/02/2018 17:02

Cloud nine, much prefer to GHDs. I've got the touch ones.

Generally straighteners are less hot these days, but they're just as effective .

oohloolala · 14/02/2018 09:48

Thank you! I've been looking at the Steampod online and think I'm sold! Does anyone use the cream or serum?

Both of my DDs have got the new GHDs and they are terrible in comparison to the older generations of them. I've got a Cloud Nine touch pair and they are fab but get very hot so you need heat protection.

WeeM · 14/02/2018 10:36

Ive got the Cloud Nine wise iron and I totally love them. Much better than my ghds were.

*wide Confused

I did buy the Steampod serum but haven't got around to using it yet. My usual anti-frizz stuff seemed to work just fine.

You do need to get a special type of water for the pod, normal tap water will leave deposits and basically fucks it up. You need ionised water iirc, I bought a massive thing of it from Amazon for about a fiver.

Alienspaceship · 14/02/2018 16:27

I love my steam pod! I use it with mythic oil heat protection cream.

digestivate · 14/02/2018 18:12

I just use normal water in my steam pod that has been filtered, didn't realise I needed special water! I use mythic oil which is great

JanetStWalker · 14/02/2018 18:54

It actually says to use demineralised water but I was told that deironised will do. I wrote ionised before because I'm an idiot. Grin

digestivate · 14/02/2018 21:13

Eek I hope not breaking mine! I can't be doing with buying special water though so will just carry on using my filtered water and hope for the best!

JanetStWalker · 14/02/2018 21:21

Hopefully it'll be ok! I'd feed mine fillet steak if that's what it took to keep it happy, I love it so much. Blush

oohloolala · 14/02/2018 22:17

Good to know about the water, thanks! Right I'm definitely getting a Steampod but probs won't bother with the serum/cream. So excited to have nice hair

BeeFarseer · 14/02/2018 22:20

I came on to recommend the steampod as well.

I don't bother with special water, but I live in a very soft water area. If I had hard water, I'd use the deionised stuff.

I don't use heat protection products with mine either, but I only use it once or twice a month.

IWillSurviveHeyHey · 15/02/2018 07:21

Is this gadget suitable for children? My 10 YO DD has fine hair, lots of it, gets matted easily, it's sort of curly but not throughout, so it always looks messy.

oohloolala · 23/02/2018 16:20

Iwillsurvive they are suitable for 8 yrs plus
